As a Night Team Leader, you will provide professional care for the residents at Whitgift House in line with Whitgift Care's policies and procedures, ensuring residents are safeguarded from harm and that privacy, self-respect, dignity, and well-being are maintained at all times. You will lead and supervise staff, time, equipment and support services to maintain the quality of the service delivered.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Operational
To ensure there are the correct number of staff on duty for the current and upcoming shifts, in line with the staffing ladder under the direction of the Home Manager.
To delegate to and manage staff on each shift and effectively manage time.
To monitor care staff during each night shift
To maintain accurate records and monitor records completed by Care Assistants (Residential).
To manage, report, and record all accidents, incidents and near misses in line with the Whitgift Care's policies and procedures.
To effectively communicate with service users, colleagues, management, external healthcare professionals and visitors.
Clinical
To provide an agreed level of care intervention for residents with chronic conditions to ensure quality of life and care as directed by a Registered Nurse.
To liaise with General Practitioners and other healthcare professionals to effectively manage service users' health concerns
To be competent in the safe storage, handling, administration and record keeping of medication in line with Whitgift Care's policies and procedures and CQC Standards.
To effectively use equipment supplied by Whitgift Care and support care staff in understanding how to use it.
To manage infection prevention and control in line with Whitgift Care's policies and procedures, CQC Standards and Public Health England guidelines.
To support the care plan process for a designated number of service users, updating and reviewing risk assessments and care plans in collaboration with the service users, their families, and Care Assistants (Nursing).
Under the direction of the Registered Managers to guide the team in effective, compassionate end-of-life care in line with the Gold Standards Framework.
Quality
To promote high standards of person-centred care, and act as a role model at all times.
To use equipment as per manufacturer's instructions and report any malfunctions.
To have an in depth understanding of Whitgift Care's policies and procedures, CQC Standards and the NMC Code of Practice.
To complete risk assessments and review care plans monthly, or sooner where care needs change as directed by a Registered Nurse and report significant changes to care needs to Registered Nurses or the management team
To support care audits and the care governance process.
To support the training and competency assessments of care staff.
To attend mandatory training and other training identified as required to provide appropriate interventions for the service users.
To comply with health and safety regulations and Whitgift Care policies and procedures.
Champion Role
Providing motivation and supplementary development to staff (where appropriate) in an area of champion responsibility.
Acting as a named point of contact for staff, residents, and relatives.
Providing professional information and signposting to staff, residents, and relatives.
Working and liaising with other champions for support and sharing of ideas.
Areas of Champion Responsibility can include but are not limited to Infection control, Safeguarding, Nutrition and Hydration and End of Life.
Complete the audits in relation to the champion role as directed by the Home Manager and inform the service improvement plan.
Human Resources
To complete supervisions and appraisals for a group of designated Night Care Assistants (Residential).
To be involved in inductions, teaching and support for Night Care Assistants (Residential).
To attend staff meetings and be fully aware of Whitgift Care changes and updates.
To attend supervisions, appraisals and be assessed as competent in required areas as directed by the Registered Nurse and other senior members of staff.
Finance
To maintain the staffing ladder as agreed by the Registered Nurse.
To liaise with the Registered Nurse to replace absent staff with equitable grades, avoiding use of agency wherever possible.
To support the management in welcoming visitors and supporting new and future residents.
