Location: Agile working across Etal Lane Police Station and homeworking, with travel to partner organisation premises as required.
Hours/Contract: 37 hours per week, fixed term / secondment for 12 months

The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our NLRF Department as an NLRF Training and Exercise Group and Risk Officer.
The role involves assisting in the management and dissemination of risk information for the Northumbria Local Resilience Forum (NLRF), particularly in relation to duties under the National Security Risk Assessment. A key aspect of this responsibility is providing support to the Chair of the LRF Risk Group.
Additionally, the role supports the development and delivery of a dedicated training and exercising function for the LRF. This includes contributing to the coordination and day-to-day operations of the forum. Support is also provided to the Chair of the Training and Exercising Group to ensure effective planning and execution of resilience activities.
What you'll do

• Northumbria LRF's expanding duties require additional support to ensure effective risk assessment, management, and a proactive training and exercising function.
• The LRF's core purpose is to plan for and respond to incidents requiring a multi-agency approach, including:
• Coordinating training and exercising activities.
• Assessing risks and mitigation strategies for partner agencies.
• Producing key documents such as the NSRA, CRR, gap analyses, debrief reports, and actions from the Assurance Board.
• Ensuring preparedness within available resources to support communities during emergencies.

• Tasked by various LRF leadership roles including the Tactical Business Group Chair, Assurance Board Chair, LRF Manager and Coordinator, Risk Group Chair, and Training & Exercising Group Chair.
• Professionally represents the LRF at meetings and events, supporting group Chairs and assisting with daily LRF duties.
• Attends Risk and Training & Exercising Group meetings as a subject matter expert, offering advice and guidance, supporting discussions, and reviewing corrective actions and improvement opportunities.
• Supports workstreams of both the Risk Group and Training & Exercising Group, including participation in regional meetings such as the North East Training and Exercising Group and North East Risk meetings.

What you'll bring

• Strong foundation in risk assessment, project management, multi-agency collaboration, and relevant legislation (e.g. Civil Contingencies Act), supported by ongoing professional development and solid educational background.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and resilience tools, with a commitment to obtaining a Level 4 training qualification in Learning & Development within six months of appointment.
• Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior management and personnel across multiple organisations.
• Experience in training, exercising, and project work within fast-paced, multi-tasking environments.
• Pragmatic problem-solver with strong analytical, reporting, and presentation skills; able to prioritise workload, meet deadlines under pressure, and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and people management abilities, with a talent for building effective relationships and delivering high-quality administrative and organisational support.
• Collaborative, respectful, and adaptable team player who works well independently, manages workload effectively, and remains calm under pressure.
• Motivated and enthusiastic with a common-sense approach, capable of handling multiple issues, engaging confidently with diverse queries, and committed to personal development.

Terms of appointment
This is a fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period.
