Are you a motivated administrator keen to gain experience working in the museum sector?

The National Museum Directors\' Council (NMDC) represents the leaders of the UK\'s national collections and major regional museums. We act as an advocate on behalf of our members and their collective priorities and work to shape museum and cultural policy agendas, as well as providing our membership with a forum for discussion and an opportunity to share information and work collaboratively. The current Chair of the Council is Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate. A team of four staff handle the day-to-day business and are based within the institution of the current Chair. As NMDC Administrator you will provide efficient and effective administrative support to the NMDC staff team and Chair and ensure the smooth running of the NMDC office. Reporting to the Policy and Projects Manager, you will support delivery of NMDC meetings and events, external communications, projects and members\' services. You will be in regular contact with colleagues across NMDC member institutions and related organisations and will build up an extensive knowledge of current UK museum and cultural sector issues.

You will have experience of organising meetings and the ability to manage electronic diaries, websites, contact databases and financial administration systems. You will have excellent IT and communication skills, good attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The role is based at the Tate Britain, with the option for home working (approximately 50%) and will include some UK travel and occasional events outside regular working hours.
  • In April 2025 the NMDC office will relocate to another NMDC member institution when a new Chair is elected.
  • This role is subject to a Disclosure Scotland basic criminal record check.
