Nms Supervisor

Norwich, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About us

Norwich Men's Shed (NMS) provides a welcoming and supportive environment where men can connect, learn new skills, and find purpose. Our workshop space offers a sanctuary for those who may be struggling with loneliness, isolation, or poor mental health. Through woodworking and other group activities, our members are able to experience the therapeutic benefits of creativity and social interaction.

Our members, men from all walks of life, come together to work on woodworking projects, share stories, and support one another. The benefits of these activities are undeniable, providing a much-needed respite from the pressures of daily life.

Many of our members are retired, living alone, or caring for loved ones and find the 'Shed' to be a vital source of companionship and support, helping to combat the loneliness and social isolation that can lead to depression. We're proud to be a vibrant, male-friendly space where support feels informal and accessible, helping us reach those who might not feel comfortable seeking help through traditional services.

We ask members to make a small monthly contribution to the cost of running the shed where possible and their sense of pride and ownership of the space is evident during workshop sessions.

The role of the NMS Supervisor is to support the members whilst on site, which may include a conversation about what is troubling them outside of the shed activities / in their daily lives. It has been necessary on occasion for NMS staff to "signpost" members to Adult Social Care. For the primary aims of the Norwich Men's Shed charity to be delivered, this role is only available for a male applicant.
