The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated
Nursery Cook
to join our friendly team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about preparing healthy, nutritious meals for children and can confidently manage the smooth running of our kitchen. You'll play a vital role in ensuring our children are well-fed, happy, and safe, while following Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) nutrition guidance.
Responsibilities
As our Nursery Cook, your duties will include:
Managing stock, deliveries, and food storage.
Preparing and cooking balanced meals/snacks in line with nursery menus and EYFS nutritional guidance.
Creating and displaying weekly menus for parents, children, and staff.
Catering for children's individual dietary, allergy, and cultural requirements.
Ensuring the kitchen and dining areas are clean, safe, and compliant with Food Hygiene standards.
Maintaining accurate kitchen records (temperatures, cleaning schedules, etc).
Liaising with parents/carers regarding children's dietary needs and preferences.
Leading and supporting any kitchen assistants when required.
Working in partnership with the nursery team to uphold our values and provide the best care for children.
Essential:
Ability to cook healthy, balanced meals for children.
Current Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (or willingness to update before expiry).
Knowledge of food allergens and how to manage them safely.
Strong organisational skills and ability to run the kitchen smoothly.
Positive, enthusiastic attitude and passion for supporting children's wellbeing.
Enhanced DBS check (required before starting).
Desirable:
Previous experience working in a kitchen environment (nursery or school).
Safeguarding Children Level 1 and Paediatric First Aid (training can be provided).
