Job Summary



To organise a suitable rotating menu, order, store, prepare, cook and serve healthy and nutritionally balanced meals for children aged 3 months - 5 years, including children who have specific dietary or cultural requirements and allergies. Ensure that health and safety, hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen are of the highest standard in accordance with Environmental Health requirements and legislation. To maintain a 5 Star hygiene rating.

Key Responsibilities:



To be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, maintaining kitchen procedures, risk assessments and records, ensuring compliance with registration and legislative requirements at all times. To ensure that the highest standards of health and safety apply to both children, staff, parents and visitors, maintaining a safe and secure environment, preventing cross contamination of food within the kitchen area. To have total responsibility of the kitchen, ensuring the kitchen and equipment is always kept clean including walls, floors and trolleys, following a cleaning schedule. All the crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed in accordance with food safety guidelines. To take temperatures of the food, fridge and freezer and record these in the kitchen file. Temperatures of high-risk food must be recorded at time of delivery and cooking. All food must be stored and served at the temperatures required by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health-Food Safety. To be responsible for the planning, ordering, storage, (including rotation of stock), and preparation of food to provide meals. Ensure that all individual dietary requirements are catered for in line with parental guidance. Maintain an awareness of food allergies keeping up to date information of all children in the nursery, working with the staff team during new admissions. Ensure that all foods are ready at the specified time and correctly served. Ensure the effective and regular removal of waste materials to the designated waste area. Ensure you have a clean uniform daily, including head wear, apron and wear suitable footwear for working in a busy kitchen space. Hair to be tied back if touching your collar, no nail varnish, no false nails, no watch or rings to be worn, except for a wedding band. The ability to manage your own time and prioritise tasks, to use your initiative and to work as part of a team, supporting in the Nursery as needed. Have a friendly, flexible approach and be professional, polite and positive in all verbal and non-verbal interactions with staff, parents and children. To give regular feedback to the Nursery Manager about the kitchen. Commitment to undertaking appropriate training and continued professional development, including Food Safety, Allergy Awareness, Nutrition and any other relevant training, refreshing regularly. Update your knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues including COSHH regularly. To contribute to the team effort of the nursery and to attend staff meetings and social events as and when required. To undertake any other reasonable catering duties as requested by the Nursery Manager.
