Hours are flexible and can be finalised once the perfect person is found, but would be approximately 8am - 3.00 from Monday - Friday, and we are open 50 weeks of the year

We're a friendly and dedicated nursery based in Morpeth, caring for children aged 4 months to 5 years. We're on the lookout for a warm, reliable, and enthusiastic cook to join our highly regarded team. You'll be preparing fresh, well-balanced meals and snacks for children aged 0-5, with a strong focus on nutrition and care. From accommodating allergies and dietary needs to whipping up vegetarian options, your creativity and attention to detail will help make mealtimes a highlight of the day.

There's something truly special about cooking in our nursery. Over time, you'll know every child by name, and your meals will be eagerly anticipated--and talked about at home! The children will shower you with curious questions like, "Do you like dinosaurs?" or "Will you be four soon?" Some will believe you live at nursery, and they'll proudly bring you vegetables from our allotment or berries from an Autumn walk, hoping you'll turn them into something delicious. It's a role full of joy, creativity, and connection.

Due to the nature of the job, all candidates will be subject to a full DBS check and references will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and prepare a variety of nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with our menu and dietary guidelines. Ensure meals are prepared hygienically and safely, adhering to all food safety regulations. Accommodate children with allergies, intolerances, and specific dietary requirements, ensuring strict avoidance of cross-contamination. Collaborate with nursery staff and parents to ensure all dietary needs and preferences are communicated and met. Maintain accurate records of food supplies, orders, and meal plans. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment.

Requirements:

Experience as a cook, preferably in a nursery, school, or childcare setting but we would consider someone who loves to cook at home or for their family and friends.

Knowledge and understanding of nutrition, particularly for young children. Awareness and understanding of food allergies and dietary restrictions, with the ability to manage these effectively. Excellent organisational and time management skills. Ordering of food, Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with children, staff, and parents. A caring and patient demeanour, with a genuine passion for providing high-quality meals for young children.

Desirable:

Qualifications in Nutrition, Childcare, or a related field. A valid Food Hygiene Certificate Experience in menu planning and meal preparation for children. First Aid training.
