JOB DESCRIPTION - NURSERY COOK



RESPONSIBLE TO - NURSERY OWNER / MANAGER



ROLE PURPOSE



To contribute to the provision of a quality nursery service by providing a nutritious, well balanced diet for the children and ensuring their welfare as prescribed by the company and best practice.

To work as a member of a team providing a quality nursery service.

To comply with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

WELFARE REQUIREMENTS



To cater for the children within appropriate guidelines and best practice, following

Puddleducks menus.

To be aware of and act within the responsibilities under the Food Hygiene Legislation.

To comply with Local Authority Environmental Health Department recommendations.

HEALTH AND SAFETY



To maintain cleanliness of crockery, cutlery and utensils, electrical equipment, surfaces and floors, cupboards, drawers and storage, cookers, dishwashers and Refrigeration units and probes, correct paperwork to be completed and checks carried out.

To be aware of the contents in the Food Safety Manual and act within these guidelines at all times.

To be aware of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) when preparing

food.

To be aware of and act within the guidelines of Puddleducks Risk Assessments.

Ensure hand wash basin is stocked with soap and paper towels.

To be aware of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and apply COSHH sheets wherever required.

To monitor equipment and report immediately any faulty / damaged equipment / machinery / other within the kitchen area.

CATERING



To provide nutritious, well balanced meals for the children and adhere to Puddleducks menus at all times.

To ensure quality of food is maintained and meals served in a professional and presentable manner.

To meet any special dietary requirements of individual children.

To serve food at the appropriate consistency according to the developmental stage of individual children (as directed by room staff).

To provide a weekly shopping list of correct quantities of food, which management will then order from nominated suppliers for menus.

To follow procedures for stock rotation, food correctly stored and dated.

To prepare and serve a two course lunch and carry out all cleaning of the kitchen and equipment. Fully prepare (as far as possible) and safely store the afternoon meal for staff to serve later in the day.

PARENTS & VISITORS



To liaise with parents/nursery management about any special dietary requirements that the children may have.

To be polite and always greet parents and visitors in a professional manner.

COLLEAGUES



To work as a team with staff members, giving support where required.

To liaise with staff and support them to ensure the older children are experiencing cooking activities.

To inform staff of instructions for heating / serving the afternoon meal.

To carry out tasks to meet any special nutritional requirements of individual children, at the request of room staff.

ADMINISTRATION



To ensure all paperwork is completed correctly and in specified time in accordance with Managing Food and Kitchen Safety manual.

To work alongside the nursery manager to review the nursery menu's every six months.

GENERAL



To load the washing machine with soiled laundry and if full, switch the machine on. Empty machine and hang out washing. Remove and fold clean, dry washing.

To monitor and ensure stock of washing powder, softener and other cleaning and washing materials listed on stock take sheet.

Any other duties as required by management

Pay: 14.00 per hour
