We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team in a culinary role. The successful candidate will be responsible for food preparation and cooking, and ensuring high standards of Food Safety and Hygiene at a level 3.
The hours of work will be 8.00am - 5.00pm, five days per week.
Please note this position is all year round and not a term time only post
The successful candidate will require sound knowledge of Allergen Awareness and the Early Years Nutrition Guidance, May 2025.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to showcase your skills within a friendly kitchen environment, contributing to the creation of delicious meals for the children across the Nursery aged between 6 months and 5 years.
Duties
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, adhering to food safety regulations
Supervise and support the Kitchen Assistant with daily duties
Prepare nutritious, cooked lunches for children in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage Nutrition Guidance
Provide appropriate and alternative meals for babies during the weaning process and for children with special dietary requirements
Prepare snacks and tea for all children
Purchase food items through approved administrative channels
Compile weekly food orders from our chosen supermarket and local butcher
Draft and update the weekly menus in consultation with the Head of Nursery
Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations and maintain records as required by Environmental Health
Ensure all food is stored correctly and rotation procedures are followed to minimise waste
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations during busy periods
Ensuring local guidance is followed in relation to food waste and re cycling
Qualifications/Experience
Level 3 in Food Hygiene, focusing on
food safety management, legal responsibilities, and HACCP systems
and hands on cooking experience
Previous experience in food preparation and cooking is essential
Experience working in a school or nursery catering environment is desirable
Strong organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
