JOB PURPOSE:

To produce high quality food for the nursery children; offering a nutritious and appetising range of food encompassing the requirements of children with cultural or special dietary needs.

CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS; Monday to Friday; 5 hours per day (8.00/9.00/9.30am - 1.00/2.00/2.30pm)



MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



To prepare and cook a variety of meals, following the menu, for approximately 90 children per day. Two sittings: 11.30 and 12.30pm, Monday to Friday. To collate food orders for snacks and other essentials and submit weekly shop for delivery each Monday morning. Mid week orders may also be used if felt more appropriate. To follow guidelines in relation to the storage of food and stock rotation. To identify and advise on catering requirements within the nursery and work with the management team to vary the menus across the year. To liaise with the three playroom Supervisors on a weekly basis to collate numbers and dietary requirements. To be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of kitchen and the equipment. To receive and check deliveries and record temperatures. To be familiar with and ensure that all statutory regulations governing food preparation and hygiene are adhered to (e.g. Food Hygiene Regulations, Public Health Act, and Environmental Health Act). To clean working areas and equipment after use in accordance with cleaning schedules, infection control and statutory regulations. To be aware of security and act accordingly at all times. To ensure that all used equipment is in working condition, clean and stored in a safe and hygienic manner in line with the services infection control policy. To ensure all kitchen linen, e.g. overalls, tea towels etc, are laundered and that adequate stocks are available. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of recipes in relation to healthy eating and the special needs of the client group. To use guidance from Setting the Table and other documents highlighting good practice in providing snacks/meals for pre school children. To engage with parents regarding healthy choices and look at ways to engage them in the meals provided at nursery; menu suggestions; etc. To identify personal and on-going training needs.

HEALTH & SAFETY



To be familiar with, and adhere to, current Health and Safety at Work legislation, the Environmental Health Act, and all other current guidance relating to this role. To ensure that all cleaning is done in a safe and hygienic manner and that appropriate procedures are followed. To collect, store and dispose of waste products and rubbish in accordance with the appropriate disposal procedures. To ensure that any faults in equipment are reported to the Manager and recorded appropriately and that procedures are followed. To be familiar with the fire procedure and evacuation exits and act accordingly in an emergency situation.
