Nursery Chef



This role is responsible for planning, preparing and serving fresh nutritious and safe food to nursery children and staff every day.

Meals include breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and snacks, and occasional special food for special events. The role is also responsible for maintaining all required Healthy and Safety standards relating to the safe preparation and service of meals for vulnerable children. The role reports to the Nursery Manager. Tasks include (not an exhaustive list):

Liaising with the Admin team on recipes and source of ingredients. Monitor and implement Food Hygiene legislation affecting the Nursery Responsible for monitoring and proposing updates to the following policies to Nursery Manager: Food Policy Allergies and Food Intolerance Policy Health and Safety Policy Mealtime Policy Responsible for maintaining the kitchen related documents within the nursery Health and Safety file, maintaining a Kitchen Record file of all completed checklists and ensuring that the Nursery Health and Safety Policy is adhered to, reporting any problems regarding equipment maintenance or failure, of policy non-compliance to the Nursery Manager, including for regularly monitoring and proposing updates to the following Health & Safety documents to Nursery Manager: All kitchen/food related Risk Assessments Kitchen HACCP Food Serving Hazard Analysis COSHH documents Kitchen Hygiene Inspection Checklists Kitchen & Food Storage areas Cleaning Schedule Checklists Temperature Check Records Responsible for devising and revising menus for the entire nursery, including babies, to be approved by Nursery Manager to ensure menu meets correct nutritional standards. Ensuring safe alternative meals are planned for children with food allergies and intolerances. Responsible for updating menus on parent notice board with daily changes to menu and babies' meals Responsible for compiling shopping lists based on the menus to assist with food purchasing and including any equipment requirements. Responsible for ordering fresh fruit and vegetables, milk and bread as required Responsible for managing the safe storage of raw and cooked food Responsible for the safe preparation of food according to the menus Responsible for service of freshly prepared meals to each play room daily Responsible for ensuring that clean, safe and appropriate cutlery, crockery and serving dishes are used. Responsible for supervising the activities of the Kitchen Assistant Responsible for implementing a stock rotation system for all bought foods and inform rest of team how to use system. Responsible for the safe preparation, frozen storage and stock rotation of individual baby and toddler meals, again ensuring childcare staff understand and maintain stock rotation system. Responsible for the correct labelling of 'Use By' dates for frozen meals. Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the Kitchen and Food Storage areas. Ensuring that all relevant training and staff meetings are attended as agreed/requested by the nursery manager, understanding that this may be outside of normal working hours Must already have, or be working towards, a current Basic Food Hygiene certificate. Anything else relating to the kitchen, food or service of meals as requested by the nursery manager Have awareness & understanding that safeguarding is everybody's responsibility and that you have a duty to act accordingly & report any concerns.
