The main duties of this post are:
To plan weekly menus for snacks and lunches taking account of dietary requirements and any current children's food allergies. Our aim is to ensure that children receive the same or similar food wherever possible, thereby ensuring that all children are treated equally. The planning of menus therefore requires a wide knowledge of different recipes and where different ingredients can be substituted to ensure the safety of children with food allergies.
To liaise with management, the staff team, parents and carers over all dietary requirements including any food allergies which children may have.
To prepare the ingredients for children's snacks each day. Snacks are served by the staff team working with the children.
To prepare, cook and serve a two course lunch for each child attending over the lunch period - the maximum number would be 56 but usually around 40 children each day.
To prepare ingredients for children attending for tea - normally around 9 - 12 children each day. Teas are served by the staff team working with the children.
To wash all dishes from lunches and ensure that the kitchen is left clean, plus food waste, compost materials from fruit and veg peelings, and food packaging for recycling are all disposed of appropriately.
To provide a safe food preparation environment within the Nursery premises, ensuring all Environmental Health regulations are adhered to. This will involve responsibility for appropriate record keeping, following the Cook Safe procedures, ensuring that all food storage areas are kept clean and tidy and that appropriate stock rotation is practised.
To organise weekly orders and to check stock as it arrives at the Nursery.
To be available for work on a daily basis for the agreed working hours which will fall within the Nursery opening hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. You may also be required to attend occasional training events (which may be out with your normal working hours).
To abide by Company Rules and Staff Codes of Conduct at all times.
To bring enthusiasm to the workplace and show willingness to be flexible, for example when staff plan outings which require food to be prepared to be transported out with the Nursery
