Overview:
We are seeking a caring, reliable, and organised Nursery Cook to join our early years team. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing nutritious, child-friendly meals in line with dietary requirements, allergies, and food safety standards. This role involves planning and preparing balanced meals for children aged 0-5 years, maintaining excellent hygiene practices, and supporting the nursery's commitment to healthy eating.
The successful applicant will demonstrate strong organisational skills, an understanding of early years nutrition, and a passion for providing high-quality meals that support children's development and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and cook healthy, balanced meals and snacks in accordance with nursery menus, portion guidance, and children's dietary needs.
Ensure all meals meet individual allergy, intolerance, and cultural dietary requirements, maintaining up-to-date records for each child.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment in line with food hygiene and safety regulations (including HACCP and Safer Food, Better Business).
Monitor and record food temperatures, deliveries, and cleaning schedules accurately.
Manage stock levels, order supplies, and control waste to ensure cost-effective kitchen operation.
Work collaboratively with the Nursery Manager and staff team to promote healthy eating and support special events or themed days.
Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and food safety policies consistently.
Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely and maintained in good condition.
Attend regular training and refreshers to remain compliant with current food safety and allergy management standards.
Requirements
Proven experience working as a cook, preferably in a nursery, school, or care setting.
Knowledge of child nutrition and portion control for early years.
Food Hygiene Level 2 (or above) qualification - Level 3 desirable.
Understanding of allergy management and food safety regulations.
Excellent organisation and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider nursery team.
A caring, patient attitude with a commitment to supporting children's wellbeing through healthy eating.
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Job Type: Permanent
Pay: From 12.21 per hour
