We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Nursery Cook to join our lovely team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing meals tailored to young children's dietary needs, ensuring a safe and hygienic kitchen environment, and supporting our commitment to fostering healthy eating habits. Your culinary expertise will help create a positive mealtime experience that promotes growth, development, and joy among our little learners.
Safeguarding children in our care is our number one priority. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and complete safeguarding training during initial induction.
Responsibilities
Plan and prepare balanced, age-appropriate meals and snacks in accordance with dietary guidelines and nutritional standards for children. (At the moment we use an outside catering company which bring food in to the Nursery and the cook heats and serves it. However we are looking to change this, and would like food prepared and cooked on site by our cook.
Follow detailed menu plans, incorporating variety and seasonal ingredients to keep meals exciting and nutritious.
Maintain strict food safety protocols, including proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and cleaning procedures to ensure a safe kitchen environment.
Collaborate with staff to accommodate special dietary requirements or allergies, ensuring all children's needs are met with care and precision.
Manage kitchen inventory by monitoring supplies, ordering ingredients as needed, and minimizing waste through efficient food preparation practices.
Uphold health regulations and licensing standards related to food preparation in childcare settings.
Experience
Prior experience working in a dietary department or as a dietary aide is highly desirable.
Demonstrated culinary skills with a focus on meal preparation for children or in a similar setting such as a daycare or preschool.
Knowledge of food safety standards, proper food handling techniques, and sanitation practices within the food industry.
Experience with menu planning that includes nutritional considerations for young children.
Background in kitchen operations within the food service or restaurant industry is preferred, especially roles involving cooking and food presentation.
Familiarity with catering or large-scale meal preparation can be an asset.
