The Deputy will be responsible for leading the toddler room and will be the nursery SENDCo, although mostly supernumerary
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Support the Nursery Manager in overseeing the daily operation of the nursery.
Act as the person in charge in the absence of the Nursery Manager.
Lead, motivate, and supervise staff, providing guidance, training, and support.
Assist with staff rotas, ensuring appropriate ratios and adequate cover.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Ensure the nursery adheres to the
EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)
statutory requirements.
Promote and ensure the safeguarding and welfare of children at all times.
Maintain compliance with Ofsted regulations and all relevant legislation.
Keep accurate and up-to-date records, policies, and procedures.
Curriculum & Learning
Work with the team to deliver a high-quality curriculum in line with the EYFS framework.
Support planning, observation, and assessment of children's learning and development.
Ensure inclusive practice, meeting the needs of all children, including those with additional needs.
Build strong, positive relationships with children to foster learning and development.
Parent & Community Partnerships
Develop and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers, ensuring effective communication.
Support parent consultations, progress reports, and nursery events.
Represent the nursery positively within the local community.
Operational & Administrative Duties
Assist in monitoring budgets, resources, and supplies.
Ensure health & safety, risk assessments, and cleanliness standards are consistently met.
Contribute to recruitment, induction, and performance reviews of staff.
Essential Requirements
Level 3 (or above) qualification in Childcare/Early Years
(e.g., NVQ, CACHE, or equivalent).
Minimum of
2 years' experience
in an Early Years setting.
Strong understanding of the
EYFS framework
and Ofsted requirements.
Proven leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
A genuine passion for childcare and commitment to supporting children's development.

Desirable Skills & Experience
Previous experience as a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, or Deputy Manager.
Knowledge of SEND and inclusive practice.
Experience supporting staff development and training.
Familiarity with nursery management software or digital learning journals.
