This role is all year round and the hours will be from 7.45am-6pm Monday to Friday. The starting wage is 13.34 per hour. This will increase after a six month probationary period.
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery Deputy Manager to support the Manager to oversee the daily operations of our nursery. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of early childhood education. The Deputy Manager will play a pivotal role in communicating with parents and staff, ensuring that all children receive the best possible care and education.
Duties
Work alongside the Manager to lead and manage the nursery team, providing guidance and support to ensure effective delivery of childcare services.
Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment for children to learn and play.
Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's progress and any concerns that may arise.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to childcare and early years education.
Foster positive relationships with children, encouraging their social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Drive initiatives that promote inclusive practices within the nursery.
Experience
Proven experience in a childcare setting with managerial responsibilities.
Strong understanding of early childhood education principles and practices.
Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing teams effectively.
Experience working with children in various age groups within a nursery or similar environment is essential.
A relevant qualification in Early Childhood Education or Childcare is highly desirable.

The Nursery Deputy Manager will be based in the office and in the rooms dependant on the daily deployment of staff. They must provide high quality, flexible childcare for families from the local communities.
Main Responsibilities:
to contribute to the strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of the Nursery.
To be responsible at all times for high standards of care and education of children between 2-5 Years in accordance with statutory requirements.
To ensure the EYFS is promoted and delivered within the setting and the principles adhered to.
To support the manager in achieving the best outcomes for all children who attend the nursery.
To be responsible for admissions in line with the admissions policy .
Main Responsibilities in the managers absence:
To be responsible for and to oversee the day to day management, staffing, organisation and smooth running of the Nursery.
To develop the ethos of For under Fives and to create a welcoming and family friendly environment.
To be accountable and responsible for day to day financial systems directly relating to the Nursery provision.
To keep a register and up to date records of all children using the Nursery provision and to give regular feedback to parents about their child's development and progress.
The Deputy Manager will be responsible for management, supervision of the all staff in the manager's absence and will ensure these are kept up to date.
The Deputy Manager will identify staff training needs and facilitate training opportunities with the support and recommendation of the manager
The Deputy Manager will have a key role in planning and monitoring of the nursery and implementing essential policies and procedures. This will require creative thought together with an informed understanding of statutory requirements and best practice for childcare.
The Deputy Manager must work to Nursery policies to ensure Children are kept Safe have Equal Opportunities and that Data Protection and Confidentiality is robust.
The Deputy Manager will need to understand and implement for early years foundation stage, policies and procedures (for example for Health and Safety) in relation to staff, buildings and resources
The Deputy Manager will be expected to build good working relationships at every level. Working in partnership with parents and families is highly valued and the Deputy Manager must be approachable, friendly and able to communicate effectively at all times.
At all times the Deputy Manager will be expected to respect the confidentiality of sensitive family information (subject to child protection policies and procedures).
The Deputy Manager will work closely with the Manager and other members of the management team. The role requires the confidence to make day to day decisions thoughtfully and with a high degree of sensitivity to the needs of children and families.
The Deputy Manager will be expected to make recommendations and proposals about service developments and changes.
Resources
The Deputy Manager will have day to day responsibility in the manager's absence for the planning in the Nursery (and not just the base room) and for the use of other resources. Also for ensuring that the Nursery provision is clean, safe and welcoming for families and staff..
The Nursery Manager will be a key holder for the Nursery and an emergency contact.
The Deputy Manager will need to demonstrate effective time and resource management to meet the planned needs of children and families and any anticipated demands that might be reasonably foreseen.
The Deputy Manager will need to be attentive to a planned timetable whilst retaining the flexibility to be accessible and available to parents and staff.
The Deputy Manager will need to make judgements about the delegation of tasks and responsibilities to the other staff in the Nursery.
The Deputy Manager is mainly room based, but will be expected carry out office duties when required as well as attending meetings & training in other places.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of Care for young children
Knowledge and practical understanding of child development and parenting
Knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulations relating to day care for young children and the inspections process for approval of day care settings
Knowledge and ability to create and implement policies and procedures consistent with legislation, regulations and local requirements
Able to work independently and to manage own time efficiently
Experience of managing, supervision and appraisal of staff
Ability to develop an effective team
Ability to be a key person providing a service to both the child and their family
Warm and caring personality - friendly and approachable to families
Ability to create and implement basic systems for child records and financial records
Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels
Commitment to the principle that families 'know best' about their own needs

The setting is open 7.45am-6.00pm Monday-Friday, all year round. However we would like the candidate to be flexible as cover may occasionally be needed at our sister settings.
