Qualified to Level 2 qualification in Childcare.
A minimum of 6 months paid experience working as a Nursery Nurse within the past two years.
To work as part of an effective team in providing high quality childcare for children attending the Day Nursery / Holiday Club based on a philosophy of family type care.
To promote a safe, caring and inclusive environment to enable each child to grow and develop within its own potential through self led learning.
To ensure policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
1. Role of the Department
The Sunshine Day Nursery and the Sunshine Holiday Club provide a high quality childcare service predominantly for employees of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and other NHS Organisations. This assists the Trust in meeting Equal Opportunities and flexible working objectives by caring for employee's children in a safe, stimulating and interesting environment.
Main Duties and responsibilities
To support in providing an interesting and stimulating environment which is well organised and facilitates independence and resourcefulness for the children. To develop quality activities and role play situations, inside and outside which provide an interesting, inclusive and stimulating environment.
To provide excellent care and educational opportunities for the children within your care.
To contribute in the collection of resources in the nursery. To ensure that resources are organised and prepared accordingly.
To plan and implement activities and experiences which are appropriate for children of all ages and stages of development using the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and Ofsted guidelines.
To organise the preparation of children's work for display, ensuring that it is well presented and promotes self-esteem.
To support in providing information displays for parents and carers.
To act as a key person for an appropriate number of named children, carrying out observations and developing accurate development files for each child. Establish good relationships with families, and liaise with parents to support their child's development.
To promote the highest level of safeguarding through observing children and to report any findings to the relevant person, in keeping with and heeding timescales within nursery policy or as determined by the DSL, SENCO and the Management Team. Attend meetings as deemed necessary regarding children and provide feedback on a need to know basis.
To ensure and maintain a safe and hygienic environment in the nursery, this will include cleaning and other such duties as may be deemed necessary for the efficient running of the nursery.
Encourage personal hygiene by helping children with toileting. To change nappies when necessary and supervising washing etc. Support younger children with hand washing and encouraging them to move on to the next steps.
Communicate effectively with parents in an appropriate manner, building confidence and partnership. Liaise with outside agencies and other professional bodies, sharing information on a need to know basis.
To ensure all messages from parent / staff are passed on to all other team members as appropriate in each room / area each day.
To offer comprehensive feedback to parents on how their child has been throughout the day.
To be prepared for and involved in regular parents evenings to support children's development and parent partnership.
To accurately complete any relevant nursery paperwork accurately, Including:
Children's records / development files / reports.
Booking Forms
Registers
Diet Sheets etc.
Menus / dinner numbers
Medicine forms
Accident forms
To undertake administration duties including: handling petty cash / fundraising monies / HC Tuck shop, photocopying,
To undertake housekeeping tasks including: checking the quantities and temperatures of food delivered to Nursery, preparing and serving food / snacks for the children's meals, to cover kitchen duties when Housekeeper is not present, and to launder items of clothes, nursery items as and when required.
To show potential parents, visitors around the nursery setting. To undertake visits for new parents, and top up visits pre start date, ensuring all information is relayed to the senior staff / room colleagues.
To ensure that all duties are upon meeting the needs of all children regardless of race, ability, religion or sex.
Legislation and guidance
To maintain full compliance with EYFS, OFSTED registration and any other legislation and local authority requirements.
To have an awareness of Free Early Learning.
To keep updated in all current and Trust legislation and regulations and ensure they are adhered to.
To become acquainted with and competent in carrying out the Nursery / Trust Policies and Procedures for the efficient day to day running of the Nursery. To be responsible for ensuring they are personally up to date with policy and procedure updates which are delivered via staff meetings and team briefings.

Training and Development/location
To attend regular training programmes as identified through appraisals, supervisions and peer reviews and to build on existing skills, furthering knowledge and understanding of new childcare development / initiatives. Be involved in relaying information learned from training courses back to the nursery team.
To be responsible for ensuring you are up to date with all mandatory training.
To attend regular Safeguarding Supervisions.
To attend all meetings and training as appropriate, some of which may fall outside of normal working hours or at weekends.
To work flexibly to cover the shift patterns of the Nursery
To be prepared to work across site at either Nursery to maintain staffing levels.
