About our Nursery

Kids 1st Durham is situated in the city centre in the grounds of Durham University Hospital.


The nursery is split into rooms depending on the age group and the level of development and each room has access to well-equipped and challenging outdoor areas which have been designed to suit the age groups that use them.


In the academic year before the children are eligible for mainstream school they will enter the Kids 1st Pre-School. At Kids 1st Durham we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which influences children's development and learning from birth to 5 years. The EYFS is designed to deliver improved outcomes for all children, across every area of learning and development.

Role Responsibilities:

What to Expect as a Nursery Practitioner:

Create a Safe, Stimulating Environment: Prepare materials and arrange rooms to encourage children's growth and learning. Lead Educational Activities: Plan and deliver activities that support children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development, aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Key Person Role: Oversee children's development, care needs, and build strong family connections.

Required Qualifications:

What We're Looking For

Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education. Proven experience in working with children under 5 and a genuine interest in early childhood education Skills: Good communication capable or, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to apply knowledge of child development to plan and deliver activities.
