Job Description

Overview

Our setting was founded in 1952, making it among the longest established in Hampshire. We are based in a parish hall in the beautiful semi-rural area of St Cross in Winchester. We benefit from the proximity of the Water Meadows and the Hospital of St Cross, providing us with many opportunities for picturesque and educational walks/outings all year round.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Nursery Practitioner to join our vibrant childcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children, supporting their early development and learning. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about early childhood education and childcare to make a positive impact on children's lives. Applicants should possess relevant experience and a genuine love for working with children, demonstrating strong management and leadership skills. A flexible approach is essential, as many of our learning opportunities are children-led, and can change at a moment's notice. Our ethos is very much based on learning through play, and fun is very central to our activities.

Supervising children at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being within the nursery environment. Communicating effectively with parents and carers regarding children's progress and any concerns. Ensuring the nursery complies with all health and safety regulations and maintaining a clean, organised environment. Assisting with administrative tasks related to childcare management as required. We are open from 9 am to 1.30 pm each weekday (1 pm on Thursdays) throughout term-time. Working hours can be negotiable, but we would need the successful applicant to be able to work on Monday and Friday as a minimum.

Skills

Experience working with children within a nursery or childcare setting. Applicants should ideally have a level 2 or level 3 qualification in childcare, but this is not essential. Training would be offered, if required, to the successful applicant. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, to liaise confidently with children, parents, and team members. Knowledge of early childhood education principles and best practices. Ability to organise activities that promote learning through play.
