Nursery Teaching Assistant



Kingfisher CE Academy in Swindon (SN1 7DA) is looking to appoint a Nursery Teaching Assistant to work the heart of the community of Wichelstowe. We are looking for a Nursery Qualified TA who will be supporting teaching and learning in the Nursery, and working across the 2-year-old and Pre-School room and under the direction of the Nursery room leader. This is a

term-time, fixed term role ending on the 19th July 2026

. The hours are 32.5 hours per week with working hours being 8:15am - 3:15pm.

Salary range:

Trust Grade 1 - 7 24,311 - 25,600

(18,281 - 19,250 pro-rata per annum)

Job Title

: Nursery Teaching Assistant

Job Purpose:



Work in partnership with the Nursery Teacher in all aspects of the Nursery, within an educational plan, contribute to the professional staff team and assist in the development and education of children, using specialist knowledge and experience. Undertaking tasks related to classroom activities and individual pupil needs, providing supervision and care skills.

Key Accountabilities:



Responsibilities



To support children's holistic development through working with individuals, groups, and the whole class across a wide range of indoor and outdoor educational experiences. Providing them with appropriate support and interaction. To attend to the physical needs of young children, e.g., first aid, changing clothes, toilet training. To respect confidentiality of pupils and their family. To share in the responsibility for assessing children's development and learning and completing appropriate records under the direction of the Nursery Teacher. To have a good understanding of the Early Years curriculum. To understand the importance of developing a positive parents, carers and school relationship. To develop good working relationships with outside agencies and to attend any meetings required, i.e., Health Visitor, Social Services, and Speech Therapists. To assist the Nursery Teacher in providing informative reports for individual children. To share in the responsibilities of promoting a positive approach to behaviour management and to be aware of the social needs of the children and sympathetic to their emotional needs. To plan, prepare, set out and clear away activities, materials and resources in co-operation with other staff. To share responsibility for the presentation of children's work and for the compilation of displays To maintain and service resources and equipment used for play and social activities. To participate in and attend Nursery and school staff meetings and Teacher Development Days. An important aspect of the role will be involvement in appropriate further training to ensure personal and professional development. To work in partnership with the teacher in the development and supervision of students, especially those on the nursery nurse courses. To participate in reviews of Nursery policies and practices.

Safeguarding and Child Protection



Follow the procedures for safeguarding and child protection as set out in the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy. All staff are expected to record any safeguarding and behaviour concerns on CPOMS, so that this will alert a member of the safeguarding team. Report concerns about a child's safety or welfare to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or one of the Deputy Safeguarding Leads as soon as possible. Maintain confidentiality about children and families at all times and share information on a strictly need to know basis. Report to the Principal / Headteacher if there is a concern about an adult or volunteer working in school, or to the CEO if the concern is about the Principal / Headteacher.

Knowledge and Experience:



A commitment to high quality inclusive childcare and play Experience of working with children A level 2 or 3 qualification Early Years qualification (or similar) would be desirable, but is not essential Knowledge and understanding about the development needs of young children Commitment to child-centric practice and the promotion of children's rights Experience of working with children in this age range Ability to work in a team with good communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to working with parents and to equality of opportunity Appropriate literacy and numeracy skills
