Job Title: Third in Charge

Reports to: Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager

Location: Georgie Porgies Network Nurseries - Woodhouse Park

Contract Type: Full Time

Working Hours: 35 - 40 hours per week

Job Purpose:

As the Third in Charge, you will support the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager in the smooth and effective running of the nursery. You will play a key role in the leadership team, taking responsibility for day-to-day operations in their absence, ensuring high standards of care, education, and compliance are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Nursery Manager and Deputy in the overall management of the nursery. Lead the nursery in the absence of the Manager and Deputy, ensuring continuity and quality of care and education. Act as a role model for the staff team, promoting best practice in safeguarding, health & safety, EYFS delivery, and partnership with parents. Support and mentor nursery staff, contributing to their development through guidance, supervision, and performance reviews. Maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment that promotes the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of all children. Ensure accurate record keeping, including observations, assessments, and safeguarding documentation. Build and maintain positive relationships with parents/carers, providing regular feedback and updates. Support with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Assist with administrative tasks as delegated by the management team. Ensure nursery policies and procedures are fully adhered to at all times.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years Education (or equivalent) Previous experience in a supervisory or senior practitioner role Excellent understanding of the EYFS, safeguarding, and Ofsted requirements Strong communication and leadership skills Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative A genuine passion for working with young children
Desirable but not required:

Paediatric First Aid qualification Safeguarding Lead training Experience supporting staff development or mentoring

Pay: 12.77 per hour
