To lead and manage a nursery room, ensuring high-quality care and education for all children in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The Room Leader will support and guide staff, maintain a safe and stimulating environment, and work closely with parents, carers, and the management team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Supervision
Lead and motivate the room team to deliver outstanding childcare and learning.
Plan and organise daily routines and activities to meet the needs of the children.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and support to practitioners within the room.
Conduct regular room meetings and communicate effectively with management.
2. Childcare and Curriculum
Ensure all children are cared for in a happy, safe, and stimulating environment.
Implement and evaluate the EYFS curriculum, ensuring individual learning and development.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date observations, assessments, and records for all key children.
Promote inclusive practice and meet the needs of all children, including those with SEND.
3. Safeguarding and Health & Safety
Follow all nursery policies, including safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety.
Carry out risk assessments and ensure all activities are age-appropriate and safe.
Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (if required and trained).
4. Parent and Carer Partnership
Build and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers through daily communication and meetings.
Provide regular updates on children's progress and development.
5. Administration and Compliance
Maintain accurate records of attendance, accidents, and incidents.
Support inspections and ensure compliance with Ofsted and EYFS requirements.
Contribute to staff meetings, training sessions, and nursery development initiatives.
Requirements
Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education or Childcare.
Previous experience working as a Room Leader or Senior Nursery Practitioner.
Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding, and health & safety standards.
Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
