Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott\xe2\x80\x99s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.

As an Occupational Health Advisor (OHA), you will be working 1 day in the Plymouth medical centre, 2 days in customer\xe2\x80\x99s site in South Molton, 1 day on customer sites near Camborne area and 1 day will be home based performing clinical work including case management or remotely on customers sites. This arrangement is subject to change depending on business needs . The OHA would be responsible for the delivery of a full range of Occupational Health (OH) duties including case management, rail industry medicals, safety critical medicals, Train driver medical assessments, Health Surveillance including HAVS 3, and wellbeing services.

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Do

You will support the growth of a dynamic occupational health business ensuring you deliver exceptional clinical performance coupled with taking an active role in the mentoring of other health professionals.

  • Work in conjunction with our customers, either at a medical centre or customer site or remotely to provide support, advice and guidance to managers and employees in relation to sickness absence, workplace environment, risk assessment, stress management and return to work following absence.
  • Lone working: Conducting health surveillance / medical assessments including the undertaking of network rail and safety critical medicals.
  • Provide advice to managers and HR regarding staff who are considered incapable of undertaking their normal duties and responsibilities whilst working within the guidelines of customers policy
  • Provide advice and support to managers and supervisors undertaking risk assessments relating to health matters affecting their staff.
  • To ensure that knowledge is maintained of up to date legislation and best practice relating to all Occupational Health issues
  • To work with head office to increase utilization of the service in the described area, including covering evening clinics, where the client demand dictates
  • To participate in the network learning opportunities, to undertake updates on clinical improvements and actively complete performance related clinical goals. For example, delivery an update at a network day on a clinical innovation relevant to the network.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health (and be on Part 1 and Part 3 of NMC. Register) with evidence of continual professional development.
  • The experience in conducting case management assessments face to face and remotely.
  • Have the ability to work closely and effectively with HR, Health & Safety professionals and our occupational health partners.
  • Have the ability to identify key health issues and assist in the development and provision of procedures and solutions.
  • Have the ability to travel between sites, must have business insurance.
  • Be competent in the use of computers including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel software and other proprietary systems.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience.
  • A qualification in Hand Arm Vibration and experience of collecting samples for drug and alcohol testing using chain of custody protocols.
  • The ability to carry out medicals / surveillance including audiometry, spirometry, skin assessment, HAVS and safety critical medicals.
  • Experience in the Rail industry to undertake Train Driver Medicals with additional training.
