Job Description

DP World is recruiting for a Junior Occupational Health Advisor to join our team at our Southampton port. As a Junior Occupational Health Advisor, the successful candidate will provide in-house clinical expertise to support the health, safety, and wellbeing of approximately 850 employees and 420 on-site contractors. The role involves delivering a professional and evidence-based occupational health service, including conducting medicals, health surveillance, case management, and drug and alcohol testing. The postholder will also contribute to health promotion initiatives, provide occupational health advice across the business, support the development and review of risk assessments and policies, and coordinate the annual flu vaccination programme. Working collaboratively with key departments and stakeholders, the Junior Occupational Health Advisor will play an essential role in promoting a safe, healthy, and productive working environment across the port.





How will you contribute:



Play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our employees and use your specialist clinical skills to provide expert assessments and the right solutions to match the client's needs with consideration to business need/policy/scope. Ensure comprehensive, accurate, clinical records are kept for all employees and always ensure a high level of confidentiality. Support the development and review of policies, procedures, and guidelines to maintain the Occupational Health standards and frameworks. Through high visibility and effective relationship building, establish a collaborative and professional relationship with all employees, managers and HR Business Partners, to deliver a comprehensive, business focussed and clinically sound Occupational Health service in accordance with current legislation, HSE guidance, Department of Health & NICE guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (as appropriate). Provide specialist advice to employees and management during periods of ill health and/or sickness absence, along with detailed medical reports summarising recommendations in accordance with best practice and the Equality Act, considering and reflecting the needs of the business. Proactively manage absence and sickness case management and referrals; ensuring outcomes and reports are communicated in a timely manner and ensure all clinical practice and outcomes is evidence based and is supported by risk assessments and medical standards, where appropriate. Act as the company Advisor on all aspects of Health and Wellbeing. Provide professional, sensitive and pro-active communication to all stakeholders and clients. Take responsibility for your own personal development to keep abreast of current developments within the occupational health and well-being space, OH nursing and engage in the appraisal process and NMC revalidations. Provide reports, metrics and data insights as needed.

What will you Bring.



Demonstrable post registration general nursing as well as recent occupational health nursing/advisory experience within a range of sectors and industry settings. At least NMC Level 1 Registration, but part 3 of NMC preferred. Ideally holder of a SCPHN qualification but would consider DipOHPrac and/or OHNC or Diploma in OH Nursing. Experience working within a commercial and safety critical Occupational Health setting. Demonstrable experience and proven knowledge of undertaking health surveillance such as; audiometry, spirometry, HAVS etc., and undertaking safety critical medicals such as forklift truck, working at height and confined space etc. Solid experience and understanding of Health and Safety, risk assessment, clinical audit, research, evidence-based practice within clinical setting and policy/procedural development. Up to date awareness and understanding of HSE legislation, SEQOHS with a specific emphasis on work, health and well-being issues and knowledge of Health and Safety law, of the changing needs within the speciality and in health trends. Demonstrable experience and comfortable using IT systems; including MS Office, OH/Medical systems. Be able to provide evidence of meeting regulatory (i.e. recent and relevant) CPD/revalidation requirements. The ability to work autonomously and proactively, using your own initiative, but able to seek further evidence or advice as needed. An ability to effectively manage caseload, compliance and business and clinical priorities. To demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills during management of own workload and to be able to adapt to an unpredictable work pattern daily and deal with high volumes of workload. Excellent communication skills, imparting sensitive information, both written and verbally to clients, managers and other professionals whilst maintaining confidentiality boundaries Influencing skills, attention to detail and demonstrate experience in practical problem solving. Flexible to complete work according to service requirements. Due to location, your own vehicle and transport is required, along with a valid driving licence for the UK. Eligibility to work in the UK.
