Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivating Occupational Therapy Assistant with a passion for delivering excellent care, promoting and upholding Thorpe House values of Growth, Respect, Caring, Teamwork, Honesty and Safety. Past experience is not required and you will be provided with opportunity for further training and development to enable you to complete the role.

Working Hours- 37.5 per week (Hours Negotiable)

Salary- up to 24,000 annually (experience)

Main duties of the job



The primary duty and responsibility is to lead and encourage residents to join in meaningful activities and occupational interventions whilst maintaining their independence, choice and dignity, to enable them to lead as full and active life as possible.

A typical day will involve developing, planning, implementing & overseeing general activities, outings & events for the residents at Thorpe House. In addition, you will work alongside the in house Occupational Therapists supporting with implementing intervention, e.g. meal preparation, community integration, money management, personal care etc . You will need to be an organised and flexible individual who is a self-starter and ensure the provision of staff, space & materials for all activities.

You will be responsible for leading and creating a stimulating, varied and enjoyable activity plan for the homes organised activities.

You will need excellent observation and communication skills as well the ability to build trust and rapport with complex individuals. You will be expected to report back to Occupational Therapists and other staff members regarding motivation, engagement, skills and social interaction during activities.

Qualifications and Training:



Essential



GCSE English and Maths (grade C or grade 4 minimum) or Functional Skills equivalent (Level 2 minimum)

Desirable



Completion of CARE certificate, can be completed within the role Computer skills Previous experience in a care setting or Activities Co-ordinator or Occupational Therapy

Special Knowledge including experience:



Essential



Understanding of legislation, guidelines and policy Awareness of Health and Safety

Desirable



Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Therapy Awareness of the needs and problems of those with illness and disabilities Experience of mental health

Desirable



Creative Car Driver, will use the company car within working hours.

Willing to participate in on-going training Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary).
