We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join us in the Medway Council Children and Young People with Disabilities team (CYPD), on a part time basis.


CYPD Occupational Therapist's work with children and young people 0 - 18 years old and their families throughout the challenges of living with disability, offering guidance, advice on equipment and home adaptation, helping them to build skills, resilience and networks to support their journey to adulthood.


The team are close, enthusiastic and support each other in daily work. We will offer you an in-depth, structured induction, regular high-quality supervision, on-going support and career development through annual appraisals.

About you

You will be a qualified Occupational Therapist (MSc OT /BSc OT / Dip COT) with current HCPC registration.


The CYPD OT's role requires an experienced practitioner who can work independently with good time management skills, resilience and comprehensive knowledge of the legislative frameworks. We work closely with many internal and external agencies such as Housing/housing providers, the Disabled Adaptation Service and NHS and community services and so excellent communication skills are required. Working to support children and their families alongside Social Workers and Family Workers, you will elicit the voice of the child, promoting their active participation indecision-making. You will need to be competent in complex moving and handling assessment and equipment recommendations.

Skills and experience required

Qualified Occupational Therapist HCPC registered. Competent in moving and handling assessment and equipment recommendation. Experience in the assessment and provision of equipment and home adaptation for children diagnosed with a physical disability and/or neurodivergence. Experience of Disabled Facilities Grants and writing recommendations for major home adaptations. Clear understanding of current legislation regarding safeguarding of children. Knowledge of GDPR legislation to ensure clear understanding of confidentiality and the need for data protection. IT literate. Good communication, empathy, numeracy, and administrative skills. Hold a current full UK driving licence, and have access to your own vehicle for work.
