Job Purpose
The post holder will be responsible for the effective management and development of prisoners within the context of the Inclusion Policy, offering opportunities to be involved in constructive and meaningful activity and supporting prisoners in gaining skills and appropriate nationally recognised qualifications aimed at improving their employment prospects on release.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the Scottish Governments 'Safer Scotland' initiative as outlines in 'The Strategy for Justice in Scotland' which is a key priority for the SPS.

Effectively train and instruct Prisoners in the theory and practice required, ensuring compliance with standards set by the relevant examining body or training organisation and production schedules.

Ensure effective use of resources: budget, prisoner numbers, wages and equipment within functional area.

Maintain security and discipline in the workplace by monitoring tool issue, rub down searches and searches of the workplace in accordance with SPS Security Standards.

Effectively assess prisoner needs in relation to their behaviours, identifying and developing them appropriately and responsibly in the management of their personal affairs. Contribute to Integrated Case Management.

Sounds knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, particularly in relation to Risk Assessment, Safe Systems of Work and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH). Ensure effective maintenance of machinery and equipment is carried out in accordance with PUWER regulations and manufacturers specifications.

Qualification Requirements
Served a recognised Apprenticeship/Trade qualification (City & Guilds or SVQ equivalent).

Achieved L&D 9DI (A1) (D32) Assessor Award or willing to work towards.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
Experience of working within an Industries type background in a workshop/production environment.

Experience of developing the knowledge and skills of trainees

Excellent written and oral communication skills across a range of media.

Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, particularly in relation to Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.
