At Northern, we're looking for an Onboard Systems Service Technician (Networks) to ensure that our onboard communications infrastructure runs reliably and securely, supporting our customers, operations, and engineering teams.
If you're an experienced OT or network technician with an interest in rail, engineering, and systems performance, this is your chance to play a hands-on role in maintaining and improving the digital backbone of our fleet.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Onboard Systems Service Technician (Networks), you'll:
Support, maintain, and repair onboard and train-to-shore network systems--including hardware, software, and integrated communications components
Lead the development of specialist knowledge in train communications and onboard system infrastructure
Operate independently under governance frameworks to ensure continuity, resilience, and availability of critical systems
Resolve technical issues quickly and safely to minimise impact on train performance
Maintain service delivery logs, knowledge-sharing documentation, and reports in line with Onboard Systems governance
Deliver system changes in line with Northern's Engineering Change process
Work cross-functionally with Operations, IS, Information Security, Engineering, and suppliers to support projects and performance improvements
Contribute to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of Northern's fleet
About You
Tobe successful in this role, you'll bring:
3+ years' experience supporting systems in a converged Operational Technology (OT) environment
Strong knowledge of networks, databases, and diagnostic tools
A recognised technical qualification (or working towards one) in OT support or OT service delivery
A methodical approach to problem-solving with excellent attention to detailA track record of managing and resolving system-related issues independentlyExperience working in or alongside the rail industry is highly desirable
Strong communication skills and the ability to work across teams and with suppliers
