Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Oncology nurse educator to join the team at L ewisham & G reenwich T rust .



The Oncology nurse educator will provide direct clinical support as well as facilitate and deliver teaching and educational programmes to the inpatient wards (ward 21 & Laurel ward) and day units across 2 hospital sites. The post holder would be expected to work across both sites.



The post-holder will be an experienced, knowledgeable practitioner who provides leadership in practice development and education to nurses and other HCPs involved in the delivery of SACT for Haemato-oncology patients across LGT. They will work clinically to role model best, evidence-based professional practice and deliver education that meets service needs and priorities. The Oncology clinical practice facilitator will work collaboratively with clinical managers, the corporate education team, and external partners. As a senior practitioner with specialist knowledge the post-holder will be active in supporting and furthering quality and governance structures and will work with the Lead SACT Nurse and Oncology matron on audit and service improvement initiatives within haemato-oncology and SACT.



The expectation of the post holder is to work clinically to support the inpatient Oncology/Haematology Wards in & Day Treatment Units in the following areas:



Training and maintenance of SACT skills to ensure the delivery of patient-focused, evidenced -based care.



Implementation of structured pre SACT consultations for impatient ward areas



Management of the deteriorating patient



Medication/SACT Incidents



New Staff induction.



Communication skills/communicating with compassion & sensitivity.



Acute Oncology/telephone triage

Key Result Areas & Performance:



The successful candidate will lead in the development of nursing staff through the creation and implementation of relevant education and clinical skills training. They will design and maintain education programmes/training that facilitates acquisition of the necessary skills, knowledge and competency in haemato- oncology & SACT. They will Continue to implement the UKONs SACT passport and ensure all training and education is mapped to the ACCEND framework.

2. Clinical Practice



On a regular planned basis, or in response to an emergent need, contributes to clinical practice by working alongside learners delivering clinical care Uses coaching/mentoring techniques during contact time with learners to identify learning needs, improve standards, generate learning plans, respond to concerns, and escalate where necessary Demonstrates and promotes a high standard of person-centred, holistic care . Demonstrates and promotes the effective management of patient journey / flow by teaching and contributing to the development of systems for operational performance Supports clinical team leaders to set and monitor the standards of accurate and concise documentation Is highly effective in using skilled interpersonal communication to convey information and advocate for the interests and well-being of those for whom they are responsible. Maintains own competence in administering SACT





3. Leadership & management



Participates in appraisal and demonstrates professional practice and scope in line with service and or regulatory requirements. Builds strong and effective relationships across local, divisional, trust-wide and external networks. Acts as a role model/mentor through professional values, behaviours and practice and to demonstrate lifelong learning Collates yearly training needs analysis to generate predicted education expenditure for assigned clinical areas and learners. Works with the Unit managers to investigate medication/SACT related incidents and formulates appropriate action plans Provide practice development and education input to appraisal and personal development plans of clinical colleagues where appropriate

4. Audit and Evaluation:

Innovation



Audits and documents educational progress utilising effective feedback strategies which support development and wellbeing Contributes to the implementation of patient experience initiatives in response to patient feedback and NCPES results/FFT Participates in benchmarking SACT standards within Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust against peers Participates in identifying and addressing risk and poor quality through appropriate governance structures and forums where a practice development and education element exists Coordinates and participates in ongoing service review and evaluation, including seeking and monitoring patient experience and outcomes, where these have a relevance to practice development and education Have the necessary presentation skills to enable proactive participation in the dissemination of practice through conferences and professional publications Novel treatments

Communications and Relationships



Liaise with all members of the multi-professional team to ensure that care is assessed, planned, delivered and evaluated within a multi-professional framework, in the interests of the patient, and that care is communicated to all team members.



General



Undertake all relevant clinical and non-clinical functions in accordance with grade .
