The Onsite Subcontract Manager will be responsible for the effective oversight and coordination of subcontracted activities within the shipyard environment. This role ensures that all subcontractor work is aligned with project specifications, timelines, safety standards, and budgetary constraints. The manager serves as the primary point of contact between the shipyard and its subcontractors, ensuring contractual obligations are fulfilled and project goals are achieved efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Subcontract Oversight:
Monitor day-to-day subcontractor performance and adherence to scope of work. Ensure all subcontractors comply with contract terms, safety regulations, and shipyard policies. Effective and efficient coordination of daily work activities between subcontractors and shipyard operations and facilitate solutions where this will not be achieved
Project Coordination:
Participate in planning meetings and provide input on subcontractor scheduling and work sequencing. Review subcontractor work packages and verify alignment with technical specifications and shipyard standards. Identifying and resolve issues impacting cost, schedule, or quality of subcontractor work.
Contract Compliance & Documentation:
Maintain accurate documentation of subcontractor activities, including progress reports, issues, and change orders. Assist in managing contract modifications and amendments as needed. Ensure proper records of inspections, approvals, and quality assurance verifications.
Communication & Liaison:
Serve as the primary onsite liaison between subcontractors, engineering, procurement, and project management teams. Provide clear communication and expectations with all stakeholders. Address and escalate conflicts, performance issues, or disputes as appropriate.
Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE):
Enforce shipyard safety protocols and ensure subcontractor adherence to HSE guidelines. Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience in subcontract management or construction project management, preferably in a marine or shipyard environment.
Strong knowledge of subcontracting principles, contract administration, and construction processes.
Familiarity with shipyard operations, maritime regulations, and industrial safety standards.
Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors in a high-paced, hands-on environment.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with defence/military shipbuilding or repair projects.
Working Conditions:
Majority of work will be conducted onsite at a shipyard, including outdoor and industrial settings.
Requires walking, climbing, and working around heavy equipment and vessels.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
May involve weekend, or evening work during peak project phases.
