The Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) plays a vital role in the surgical team, providing high-quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires a dedicated professional who is skilled in patient care, infection prevention control, and critical care practices. The ODP will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff to ensure a safe and efficient operating environment.
Duties
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the operating theatre, ensuring all equipment is sterile and functioning correctly.
Provide direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
Implement infection prevention control measures to minimise the risk of post-operative complications.
Utilise medical terminology effectively to communicate with the surgical team and document patient information accurately.
Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and critical care principles when assisting in complex procedures.
Apply aseptic techniques consistently throughout all surgical interventions.
Monitor patients in the recovery phase, providing appropriate support and intervention as necessary.
Engage in continuous professional development to enhance skills in paediatrics and ICU practices.
Qualifications
A recognised qualification ( HCPC registered)in Operating Department Practice.
Proficiency in medical terminology related to surgical procedures and patient care.
Experience or training in paediatrics and critical care is highly desirable.
Strong analytical skills to assess patient needs and respond appropriately during surgical interventions.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is essential.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient safety and care quality.
