Job Purpose



Reporting to the Group People Director, the

Operational Development Manager

provides essential assistance in implementing operational improvement and development initiatives across the business. This position supports process design, compliance, data analysis, and project coordination to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to support business growth.

The Operational Development Manager is also responsible for the design, delivery and continuous improvement of training programs that build capability, ensure compliance, and enhance performance across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities



Process Improvement



Assist in planning and coordinating operational development projects.

Track progress and maintain project documentation.

Work with the Systems Manager to develop the use of the App to streamline operations.

Help create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and workflows for equipment hire, servicing, inspections and transport.

Ensure documentation is accurate and accessible to relevant teams.

Operational Support



Step in to cover key operational responsibilities during planned or unplanned absences of team members or managers, ensuring continuity of service and compliance with company standards.

Ensure all critical tasks such as scheduling, equipment allocation, and compliance checks are completed on time to avoid disruption.

Act within delegated authority to make operational decisions when covering for absent colleagues, escalating issues where necessary.

Keep stakeholders informed of any changes or impacts during cover periods and maintain clear communication with teams.

Training Development, Delivery & Coordination



Produce engaging and compliant training content, including manuals, presentations, e-learning modules, and practical guides.

Facilitate classroom, virtual, and on-site training sessions for employees, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development.

Implement evaluation methods (feedback forms, assessments, KPIs) to measure training impact and identify areas for improvement.

Ensure accurate documentation of training completion, certifications, and compliance requirements.

Review and update training programs regularly to reflect regulatory changes, technological advancements, and operational needs.

Assist in scheduling and tracking technical training. Maintain training records and certification compliance.

Onboarding & Induction



Develop and deliver structured induction plan for new employees, ensuring they understand company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures. Provide technical and compliance training tailored to the employee's role and experience level. Track progress during the onboarding period, provide feedback, and address any knowledge gaps. Review and update induction programs regularly to reflect changes in legislation, company processes, and industry best practices.

Data Analysis, Reporting & Stakeholder Management



Collect and analyse operational data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

Prepare reports for management on KPIs and project outcomes.

Liaise with internal teams to ensure smooth implementation of initiatives.

Provide administrative support for meetings and workshops.

Required Skills & Experience



Proven operational experience in the hire industry (powered access, plant, or tool hire preferred).

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Proficiency with hire desk systems, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office.

Familiarity with fleet management systems and digital tools.

Proven experience in designing and delivering training programs, including classroom, virtual, and on-site sessions.

Ability to create engaging training materials (manuals, presentations, e-learning content) aligned with industry compliance standards (IPAF, etc).

Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences.

Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Analytical mindset with a focus on KPIs and performance improvement.

Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Strong knowledge of powered access equipment and industry regulations (e.g., LOLER, PUWER).

Full UK driving license and willing to travel between Hire Safe Solutions sites regularly. Sites based in Harbury, Southam, Runcorn and Darlington.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 40,000.00-45,000.00 per year
