About us




G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) currently manages four prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our secure environments is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release.




At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.




Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.




About the Role




We are looking for Operational Functional Head to join our senior management team at Oakhill Secure Training Centre to provide effective management of the relevant functional department and activities in line with customer and contractual requirements whilst help create and embed our culture and values.




As an Operational Functional Head, it is important that you have substantial and current management experience, ideally within a secure environment and have the ability to thrive in a dynamic and challenging setting.




You will be managing a small team of direct reports responsible for delivering the day to day operation of the centre.




Some of the key responsibilities for this role are;


To meet or exceed contractual requirements for your functional area. To deliver and develop a functional business plan. To manage and control devolved budgets to meet functional targets. To ensure that all audits / assurance statements relevant to your functional area are achieved. To work collaboratively with other functional managers to ensure that the centre delivers to maximum capacity. To ensure management of the non-effective for your function with a key focus on control of sickness absence, TOIL and achieving annual leave and training targets. To ensure all PDRs and supervisions are completed on time and are subject to an effective quality assurance process. To ensure that all direct reports have regular 1:1 supervision and that these are conducted throughout the function. To deliver a fair, decent and challenging regime for children which maximises the opportunities for attending education, reducing risk and preventing re-offending. To respond thoroughly and within time parameters to all child queries, complaints and grievances related to the function. To promote a concept of community inclusion, ensuring that all equality and diversity standards are maintained at all times. To act as Duty Director and to ensure that all incident reporting procedures are followed along with the effective management of incidents. To conduct investigations and projects as requested by the Director / Deputy Director You are required to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, and the organisation's Data Protection Policies and must ensure that personal data relating to service users, colleagues and others is collected, stored, processed and disposed of in accordance with these requirements. You must only access personal information necessary for your role, maintain confidentiality at all times and immediately report any data breaches or suspected breaches in line with G4S procedures. This role requires active commitment to our Company values and all employees are expected to treat colleagues, service users and third parties with respect, fairness, and professionalism at all times, by actively contributing to an inclusive and supportive workplace, in daily work and decision-making. Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health and Safety culture across the site through leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner and following the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

You must have substantial management experience, have the ability to think strategically and experience of leading people.
