We have an exciting and rare opportunity for an Operations Director to join our Senior Leadership Team here at thyssenkrupp Materials UK.



The Operations Director will oversee all aspects of manufacturing, production, and operational activities within the company and will be responsible for ensuring the optimisation of manufacturing processes, maintaining high standards of quality, achieving operational efficiency, and driving continuous improvement.

You will be strategic, results-driven and will oversee and improve our organisations operational processes and systems. With a key focus on digitalisation and automation of processes to ensure operational efficiencies, to support future growth, scalability in operations management.



The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in operational management, within a manufacturing environment, with a demonstrated ability to lead teams, and drive performance improvements. As Operations Director, you will oversee various departments such as production, warehousing, assembly and logistics.###

Key Responsibilities





Strategic Leadership & Planning:

Develop Operational Strategy:

Collaborate with senior leadership to define, refine, and implement operational strategies that align with the company's strategic vision and goals. Regularly review and adjust strategies to reflect changing market conditions and business priorities

Budgeting & Financial Oversight:

Lead the development of the annual operational budget, including forecasting financial needs, resource allocation, and cost management. Ensure that operational spending stays within budgetary constraints while maintaining optimal efficiency

Risk Management:

Identify potential operational risks and create mitigation strategies to address issues such as supply chain disruptions, equipment failures, or workforce shortages

Operational Efficiency & Process Improvement:

Streamline Operations:

Continuously assess and improve operational workflows across all departments to maximise efficiency, reduce costs, and eliminate bottlenecks. Lead initiatives that optimise the use of technology, automation, and lean methodologies

Monitor KPIs & Metrics:

Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) across the organisation, including metrics related to production efficiency, customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, and cost reduction. Use data-driven insights to identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary

Team Leadership & Development:

Lead Cross-Functional Teams:

Manage and mentor operational managers, team leaders, and department heads to achieve company goals. Encourage a culture of collaboration and accountability across functions, fostering teamwork to drive operational success

Talent Development:

Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of top talent within the operations department. Provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and careers

Performance Management:

Set clear performance expectations for operational teams and conduct quarterly performance reviews. Address performance issues promptly and effectively, ensuring high levels of productivity and engagement

Customer Focus & Service Delivery:

Customer Satisfaction:

Ensure the highest standards of customer service across all operational functions. Collaborate with commercial teams to address issues and implement solutions that improve the customer experience and drive customer loyalty

On-time Delivery:

Take ownership of the timely and efficient delivery of products or services. Work closely with production, logistics, and customer service teams to ensure that deadlines are met, and orders are fulfilled as per customer expectations

Compliance & Safety:

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure that all operations comply with industry regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental laws. Stay updated on relevant changes to laws and regulations and implement necessary changes to processes and systems.

Health & Safety Leadership:

Champion a safety-first culture across all operational areas. Ensure that safety protocols are strictly followed and lead initiatives to reduce workplace injuries and ensure employee well-being

Budgeting & Performance Monitoring:

Oversee the operational budget, ensuring accurate forecasting, planning and financial reporting Analyse performance metrics, such as profit margins, OTD, capacity utilisation, machine downtimes etc

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise





Essential knowledge /skills /experience /behaviours:

Leadership:

Strong leadership abilities to manage and inspire large teams, develop high-performing cultures, and drive operational excellence

Operational Excellence:

Expertise in operations management, lean manufacturing, process optimisation, and cost reduction

Financial Acumen:

Strong understanding of budgeting, cost management, and financial forecasting

Problem Solving & Decision-Making:

Demonstrated ability to identify operational issues and implement innovative, data-driven solutions

Technology Skills:

Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP), project management tools (e.g., iNexus), and other relevant software tools

Communication:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex operational information to senior leadership and stakeholders

Analytical Thinking:

Ability to analyse large amounts of data, identify trends, and make informed decisions based on insights

Adaptability & Resilience:

Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment, demonstrating flexibility and resilience in the face of challenges
