The Parklangley Club is an award winning multi racquet sport club based in Wickham Way, Beckenham which is owned by its members. Its facilities comprise 16 tennis courts (2 indoor, 7 floodlit clay, 6 grass and 1 macadam), four squash courts and four badminton courts.
Additionally, The Parklangley Club manages the highly successful Bromley Parks Tennis programme with multiple separate facilities throughout the London Borough of Bromley.
The Parklangley Club provides a vibrant and highly respected coaching programme with
eighteen
tennis coaches, five badminton coaches and one squash coach.
Additionally, we provide a restaurant on site, we have a recently refurbished bar and host a variety of other activities.
We are extremely proud of our Parklangley 'alumni' who include Emma Radacanu (winner of the US Open), Gina Kennedy (gold medal winner, Commonwealth Games) and Annabel Croft (represented Great Britain on many occasions and achieved a world ranking of 24).
The Role
This is a new role that has been created to ensure that we provide the very best experience for our members and maintain our position as one of the leading racquet sports clubs in the South of England. We are seeking an accomplished and proactive Operations Manager to oversee the smooth, and efficient running of many aspects of the club's operations.
It represents a unique opportunity to help shape our operational capabilities at an exciting time in the club's development.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing several key operational areas including Front of House, Hospitality, Membership Services and Marketing, ensuring that every aspect of the Club reflects the highest standards of service and professionalism.
Acting as Deputy to the General Manager, you will provide leadership and coordination across departments, drive continuous improvement, and ensure that we provide best practice operational management. We envisage that this will include reviewing our current practices and introducing new processes that will streamline our operations.
What You'll Do
Assume full responsibility for the club's operations in areas such as the Bar & Restaurant, Reception, Events and Membership services.
Manage and mentor department heads, ensuring high service and compliance standards.
Oversee budgets, staffing and training.
Support marketing, communications and member engagement.
Act as Club Welfare Officer and DBS checker.
Act as Deputy to the General Manager.
Act as the Operations 'champion' within The Parklangley Club
Person Specification
Proven management experience in sports, leisure, or a membership-based organisation. We're particularly interested in someone who has relevant experience in the hospitality sector.
Strong numeracy and ability to analyse and act on detailed operational data.
Positive and dynamic approach to the role; prepared to challenge the status quo.
Lead by example and demonstrate proactivity and operational excellence.
Confident leader with strong organisational skills and experience of processes.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with colleagues, members of the club, and members of the Executive Board, Operations and Section Committees.
Prepared to be flexible to support Club events and busy periods and, if required, occasional weekend working.
Commitment to work collaboratively and in the best interests of the club and its members.
Qualifications
Either a qualification (degree or NVQ) in Sports Management, Leisure & Recreation Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field.
Or equivalent experience in leisure, sport or club operations/management
IT literacy
Experience of GDPR
First Aid at Work and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Health & Safety / Risk Management training (IOSH or NEBOSH desirable).
