Overview



We are looking for an Operations Manager to assist with the day-to-day running of the business, ensuring our teams, systems and processes operate smoothly and consistently. You'll be responsible for turning our strategic aims into clear, organised workflows, coordinating across departments, and driving continuous improvement in how we work. This role involves managing resources, monitoring performance, resolving operational issues quickly, and maintaining high standards of service, efficiency and compliance. We need someone who can bring structure, clarity and accountability to the business, freeing senior leadership to focus on growth while ensuring our operations run to a professional, reliable standard.

As a small family business, we need someone who is flexible, hands-on and willing to adapt to a wide variety of duties as required.

Key Responsibilities



Implementing Processes

: Establishing the right processes and practices across the organization to enhance efficiency. Driving continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and reduce waste.

Developing Policies

: Creating and implementing operational policies and procedures for smooth operations and ensuring all policies are adhered to.

Managing Daily Operations

: Ensuring compliance with legal regulations and standards.

Technology Management:

Sourcing, managing & evolving operational technology including but not limited to day-to-day running & development of the B2B portal located within our Warehouse Management System (WMS), Unleashed and improving usage of the WMS to improve accuracy, reporting and overall utilisation.

Supplier Management

: Negotiating contracts, managing suppliers & service contracts (fleet, utilities, insurances etc).

Tendering & Funding Applications:

Preparing submissions for tenders, funding & grants.

Performance and Reporting:

Overseeing the production of reporting, monitoring overall performance & initiating management actions. Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control activities.

People Management:

Support the directors and Head of Operations with the hiring, training & evaluation of staff.

Quality Control

: Ensuring quality control and safety measures are upheld within the organisation. Liaise with sales and accounts teams to ensure customer orders and invoices are accurate and timely.

Health and Safety:

Maintain and update company Health & Safety (H&S) records, risk assessments, and compliance documents. Keep H&S safety training, checks, and documentation up to date, ensuring incidents are reported and addressed. Take ownership of day-to-day safety compliance so the business stays protected and legally compliant.

Training:

Maintain and update staff training records, ensuring all certifications and qualifications are current and logged. Identify training gaps, providing training and support where needed to improve productivity & morale.

Strategic Planning:

Contributing to essential planning and strategy decisions to improve overall performance.

Premises Management:

Oversee the maintenance of the premises & office systems & resources

Sustainability Strategy:

Develop and maintain Carbon Management Plan and track against key activities and goals to stay on target to deliver agreed reductions.

Site Management:

Ensure the site standards are maintained and improved.

These responsibilities are crucial for achieving the company's goals and objectives.

Skills & Attributes



Driven & action orientated

Able to work independently and manage your own workload.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

High attention to detail and accuracy, especially in formal written submissions such as grant applications and tender documents.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Required Experience & Qualifications



Proven management experience in operations, production, or project management.

Good at working with people and building relationships.

5 years+ management experience. Management or leadership training is desirable.

Experience of Unleashed or similar Warehouse Management Technology and whatever tech the B2B portal uses

Good working knowledge of health & safety standards.

Desired (but not essential) Experience & Qualifications



Experience in preparing and submitting grant applications or funding bids.

Experience of completing tender documentation for local authority contracts.

Experience of complying with ISO certifications and supporting audits.

Knowledge of supply chain, logistics, or business operations.
