The role of the Operations Manager is to manage end to end site operations incorporating all warehousing and transportation functions from stock receipt to delivery, ensuring that all customer contractual obligations are met.

You will be responsible for supporting the development of the site strategy including improvement of site operations and people management within agreed budget. Remit of responsibility includes (but is not limited to) facility, warehouse and transportation functions, quality, H&S, productivity and HR.

You will engage with and provide leadership and motivation to your team. You will be an ambassador for Howard Tenens desired cultural behaviours, which will in turn facilitate the achievement of KPI's and ensure customer excellence.

You will identify and contribute to solutions to optimise and add value to new and existing customers' business aiding both organic and inorganic growth.

You will support the site management team to achieve strategic objectives to make the site the 'best in class' flag ship site for people, environment, processes and profitability. A place where people want to work and where customers trust us with their business to enable a sustainable and future proof business.

The Operations Manager is also responsible for ensuring the site facilities comply with all Legislative, Company, and Customer requirements ensuring that all products processes, premises and vehicles meet these requirements and continually improve standards, and to help the facility gain and maintain appropriate compliance and external accreditation standards where applicable. The role will also help the facility gain and maintain accreditation to BRC.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):



Overall supervision, coordination and full accountability for day-to-day operations assigned to you. Meets and exceeds depot operations financial objectives by forecasting requirements; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions. Accomplishes depot operations human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations (Objectives/PDP's); planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing remuneration actions; enforcing policies and procedures. Achieves depot operations operational objectives by contributing warehouse operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; continuous improvement and development/implementation of new business and cost saving activities. Develops depot operations systems by determining product handling, storage requirements and transport requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilisation, inventory management, dispatch and delivery. To be accountable, for ensuring relevant company and depot operating metrics are met in line with customer contractual obligations and business requirements. Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Ensure that all audits, compliance and legal standards are met and exceeded. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations. Responsible for highlighting and managing any potential quality issues. Completion of necessary process control and quality documented records, in a timely manner. To be an ambassador for Howard Tenens desired cultural behaviours.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:



Minimum of 5 years' experience in managing logistics operations Educated to Batchelor Degree Level PC Literacy - Advanced user of all Microsoft office applications H&S training and IOSH/NEBOSH certification Previous experience in 3PL multi-user depots Budgetary / Cost management experience Good working knowledge of current H&S and HR Legislation. Knowledge of relevant Transport Legislation. International CPC preferred. 'O' Licence holder experience preferred. Relevant logistics qualifications An enthusiastic, tenacious, self-motivated and result oriented leader with excellent inter-personal skills and demonstrable experience of developing high performing teams. The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with customers, staff and wider management teams. Strong communication skills: being approachable and eager to coach and train people and oneself. Communicates clearly and concisely with all audiences; keeps others informed and listens carefully to input and feedback; adapts messages to suit audience. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively influence at all levels. Creates a customer-focused environment in which excellent service is provided to all Customers; sees business through the eyes of the Customer, reacts quickly and flexibly to ever evolving customer demands. The flexibility to adapt and proactively manage change within an ambiguous environment Continually assess existing processes and utilising continuous improvement methods to improve efficiencies and productivity. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities efficiently with a varied and demanding workload. Plans Strategically: Demonstrates the ability to determine goals, direction and action steps necessary to maximise short-term and long-term. Management of H&S, security on site and personnel in line with company policies to include objective setting, regular appraisals, absence management, disciplinary and personal development. Have financial understanding and cost management experience. Manage business and site communication daily/weekly/monthly where appropriate. The role may require secondment to other sites across the UK. Promote internal and external awards. Site / Business security.
