Operations Manager Role
The Operations Manager will provide operational leadership to ensure the effective and sustainable delivery of BWE's mission. This role involves leadership of all business functions including Business Plan delivery, staff and volunteer management, financial planning, health and safety, stakeholder engagement. The Operations Manager will play a key role in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and productive environment for our team members.
Key Responsibilities
Implement BWE's business plan in collaboration with the Business Development Manager and the Board.
Work with the Business Development Manager to optimise strategies, initiatives and campaigns.
Tender, agree and plan contracts and additional works with established and new client
Ensure customer satisfaction across all departments.
Manage day-to-day operations and ensure smooth coordination across activities and teams, particularly regarding health and safety compliance in all areas.
Work closely with the accounts team to ensure that all work and products are invoiced in a timely fashion to ensure cash flow.
Cultivate a positive organisational culture grounded in inclusion, purpose, and high standards.
Line manage staff and support volunteers, providing supervision, development and appraisal.
Oversee the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support for team members with learning disabilities and additional needs.
Ensure appropriate safeguarding and wellbeing practices are in place and followed.
Coordinate countryside services, product production and other project work.
Monitor performance, quality, and impact across all operational areas.
Lead on compliance including health and safety, quality and environmental; specifically risk assessments, method statements and safeguarding.
Maintain security, health and safety, fire safety. Ensure the building is always safe and secure.
Sub-contractor management - ensure that any external contractors and suppliers are vetted and approved.
Work with the Administration Officer, accountant, HR services provider and Board to manage budgets, cashflow, and financial reporting.
Lead income generation activities from sales and contracts, support applications for grants and lead the delivery of grant aided projects.
Manage the use and development of physical assets and equipment.
Maintain positive relationships with funders, commissioners, clients, and partner organisations.
Represent BWE at events, networks, and forums to build reputation and secure new opportunities.
Drive business growth in alignment with BWE's values and social impact.
Report on all areas of business activity to the Board and sub groups as required.
Person Specification
Essential:
Proven experience in a leadership or senior management role.
Proven experience of effective staff coordination, programme planning and contracts delivery.
Strong operational and people management skills.
Commitment to inclusion and experience working with people with support needs.
Sound financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Health and safety, safeguarding and compliance certification at management level.
Desirable:
Understanding of social enterprise or voluntary sector organisations
Knowledge of grant funding and monitoring.
Familiarity with marketing and business development in a social enterprise context
.
Experience in environmental or land-based services (e.g., forestry, landscaping).
