Fess Group Ltd is seeking an experienced and highly organised Operations Manager to oversee and control day-to-day operational delivery across the business. This role is central to ensuring projects are planned, resourced, and delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Operations Manager will act as the operational hub of the business -- coordinating engineers, schedules, systems, and workflows while driving consistency, discipline, and continuous improvement across all operational activity.
This is a hybrid role, combining home working, office attendance, and UK-wide site support, and offers an excellent opportunity to play a key leadership role within a growing specialist engineering contractor.
Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly job schedules to maximise utilisation and delivery performance.
Coordinate engineers, subcontractors, logistics, travel, accommodation, equipment, and site access requirements.
Create and manage jobs within the job management system, ensuring complete and accurate digital job packs (RAMS, drawings, materials, timelines).
Oversee job workflows from post-quote handover through to job completion and invoicing.
Ensure all RAMS are prepared, approved, issued, and compliant prior to works commencing.
Maintain standardised safety documentation, digital checklists, and daily reporting.
Monitor health & safety compliance and escalate or stop work where required.
Lead quality assurance processes, including QA checklists, photographic records, inspections, and post-job reviews.
Own and maintain the live Work-In-Progress (WIP) board and produce weekly WIP reports for senior management.
Ensure accurate labour and materials tracking across all jobs.
Manage digital timesheets, validate entries, resolve discrepancies, and support payroll approvals.
Issue and control purchase orders in line with approved budgets and job requirements.
Act as a super-user for operational systems, driving adoption, training, and process standardisation.
Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs across operational workflows.
Lead weekly WIP meetings and act as the first point of contact for operational coordination.
Analyse operational data, identify inefficiencies, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years' experience in an operations management or senior coordination role within M&E, engineering, industrial, or construction environments.
Proven experience coordinating multi-site or UK-wide operations.
Strong scheduling, planning, and resource allocation capability.
Sound knowledge of RAMS, QA processes, and health & safety compliance.
Strong digital systems competency, including job management systems and operational reporting tools.
Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
Calm, structured, and proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
