Operations Manager

Dundee, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

30,000-34,000 (depending on experience) + pension + private health insurance + free parking

Full-time, office-based (Mon-Fri 8:30am - 5pm) - Broughty Ferry

(but we will be re-locating early next year to DD2)*

(Every weekend off!)

We're looking for an

experienced Operations Manager or senior team leader

who's ready to take ownership of people, performance, and process. This role is for someone who has

previously managed teams and delivered measurable operational improvements, not a traditional administrative or PA position.

This is a

key leadership role

, working closely with the Directors to drive efficiency, manage people, and bring structure to our operations. If you're the kind of person who loves taking ownership, fixing inefficiencies, and creating calm in the chaos, this could be your next step.

This is not a "desk-only" or "secretarial" role. It's a position for someone who thrives on responsibility, variety, and making a difference -- managing both people and processes in a business that's proud of its family-run roots and trusted reputation.

What You'll Be Doing

This will evolve, but you can expect to:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring projects and jobs move smoothly from start to finish. Lead, support, and develop the office and installation teams, creating structure, accountability, and shared ownership. Manage diaries, scheduling, and job allocation across the business. Identify inefficiencies and implement new systems and processes to make things faster, clearer, and more consistent. Work closely with the Directors to translate strategy into action -- ensuring decisions, deadlines, and priorities are delivered. Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of team members. Monitor and report on performance, highlighting areas for improvement. Be a trusted point of contact for both team and clients -- calm, organised, and always two steps ahead. Knowing your way around social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, would be a distinct benefit

Who This Role Is Right For

Has proven experience managing people and operations within a small or growing organisation. Is strategic and hands-on -- equally comfortable planning the bigger picture and rolling up their sleeves to make it happen. Gets genuine satisfaction from improving systems and seeing measurable results. Takes ownership and enjoys being the person others rely on to get things done. Communicates clearly and confidently, with a leadership style that's approachable but firm. Has excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail. Thrives in a role where no two weeks are the same -- and where they can actively shape how things run. Wants to be part of a business that values integrity, teamwork, and doing things properly. Has led a small team or department, with accountability for results, KPIs, and workflow. Has implemented new systems or processes that improved efficiency, communication, or profitability. Thrives on making decisions and driving change, not just supporting or following existing processes. Is comfortable managing different personalities and holding people accountable for their responsibilities. Understands how to translate business goals into day-to-day operations that deliver results. Minimum 3 years' experience managing people or operational functions (e.g., scheduling, logistics, field teams, or multi-department operations). Demonstrable track record of improving systems or processes within a business. Strong understanding of workforce planning, performance management, and service delivery.
This role will not suit someone whose background is purely administrative or executive support -- we need a proven people-manager who enjoys driving change and results. If you've ever found yourself frustrated by inefficiency and thought, "There's a better way to do this," you'll love this role.

Important Notes About Working Style

This is an office-based position, Monday-Friday, in Broughty Ferry (relocating to DD2 early next year). You'll have plenty of independence and focused time to get things done, but you'll also collaborate closely with the Directors and team. We're specifically looking for someone who already lives within about 15-20 minutes of Dundee, and is seeking a long-term role where they can genuinely make an impact.

What You'll Get

30,000-34,000 salary (depending on experience) Company pension Private health insurance Free on-site parking Every weekend off - no evenings, no shifts Full training and ongoing development A genuine opportunity to shape how the business operates as we grow and relocate
