The Role: Operations Manager



We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Operations Manager to join our Senior Management Team. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing operations across the whole site, ensuring optimal performance in production, logistics, health & safety, quality control, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a unique opportunity for a determined professional to help drive growth, enhance efficiency, and support Calder Masonry's long-term strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities



Lead, manage, and develop the quarry and factory operational teams to meet and exceed performance targets. Ensure smooth day-to-day running of the factory and site operations. Compliance with relevant quarry regulations. Working closely with the Managing Director to identify, agree and prioritise objectives and strategies. Implement effective systems and processes to improve productivity and quality. Drive a culture of health & safety compliance and continuous improvement. Act as the primary liaison between Executive Directors and Senior Management to keep them updated on operational matters. Reporting to the Board of Directors both written and in person. Collaborate with sales, production and dispatch teams to ensure operational alignment with business objectives. Identify and implement cost-effective solutions and efficiencies. Lead on sustainability and innovation initiatives within operations. Represent the company professionally in client, supplier and regulatory bodies interactions.

Key Requirements



Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably within the stone and quarrying industry, manufacturing, construction, or a related sector. Detailed knowledge and experience of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement methodology. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams. Ability to manage time and workload effectively. Excellent problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Health & safety knowledge and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. Relevant industry recognised qualifications are an advantage. Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership. Familiarity with business and financial principles. Flexibility in working patterns, weekend and out of hours work may be necessary to cover planned repairs and maintenance to reduce downtime.
