Set within The Bartlett Faculty, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is comprised of four world-class Institutes, providing expert knowledge, collaborative research, and teaching. The Institutes are supported by a centralised School professional services team where this role is based. The operational work of the BSEER administrative team is a both challenging and complex. It involves supporting a 70m research portfolio, 80 academic staff, 85 research associates, 10 postgraduate taught courses with 500 students, two undergraduate courses with 450 students, and over 180 PhD students. Continuous change is typical of the School environment and something that the administrative team thrive on and adapt to.


About the role


------------------


The Operations Manager is responsible for leading a team of nine staff providing effective delivery of Professional Services within BSEER relating to: Human Resources, finance, facilities, space management and IT. They will ensure that all operational support service functions are delivered in an efficient, responsive and professional manner, supporting excellence in teaching, research and enterprise.



This is a busy role in a fast-paced environment. The post holder must be efficient, organised and take great care in attention to detail. In addition, the role requires interaction with many people within and external to UCL. A professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are required in order to adequately execute the duties outlined.



This role is a permanent post, available from 1 September 2025.

About you

You will have experience of promoting and providing excellence in areas of administration and the provision of support services. You will have a record of successful line management and development of staff with proven team leadership and motivational skills. The ability to take initiative and make decisions using clear judgement is essential as well as excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and discretion, and the ability to liaise with staff and external individuals at all levels.
