The Role
As Operations Manager, you will lead and engage the production teams across all operations within Sperrin Metal. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our operations and driving our commitment to Operational excellence. You will be responsible for leading and improving operations processes and ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality and on time delivery to ensure Customer satisfaction. You will also be a key contributor in embedding Lean methodologies with a hands-on leadership approach. Key Responsibilities
Manage and lead production teams to deliver quality fabricated metal products on time and within budget.
Drive and embed Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies throughout operations.
Oversee production planning, scheduling and workflow organisation to meet customer requirements and deadlines.
Support workforce development including onboarding and training to build a motivated and skilled team.
Lead improvements in the design and implementation of ERP/MRP systems with end-to-end integrated workflows.
Develop and monitor operational performance metrics, driving live data capture and analysis of results to ensure improvements in quality, productivity and operational excellence.
Ensure compliance with relevant industry health, safety, environmental & quality standards.
Collaborate with the senior management team on strategic operational planning and business transformation efforts.
Identify, evaluate and implement opportunities to leverage AI and digital tools to improve business performance, streamline processes, enhance data-driven decision-making and drive innovation across the organisation.
Essential Criteria
Proven experience in operations management within a manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing production teams and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Demonstratable knowledge and practical application of Lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
Ability to oversee production planning, scheduling and operational workflow to meet quality standards and delivery timeframes.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities with an analytical mindset.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with management and production teams.
Adaptability and resilience in managing change during organisational transformation or turnaround phases.
Demonstrated awareness & experience using AI-driven tools or digital automation to enhance efficiency, reporting accuracy or business insight, with a willingness to lead future AI system improvements and adoption initiatives.
Desirable Criteria
Experience within the metal fabrication, racking or material handling industry.
Financial acumen with experience managing operational budgets or cost control initiatives.
Skilled at data analysis and performance reporting beyond basic metrics, using analytics to drive decision making.
Aptitude for digital transformation initiatives including software implementation or automation projects.
