Job Purpose




As Operations Manager you will be pivotal in maintaining the smooth day-to-day activities in the community arts venue and preparing for performance events, actively organising and maintaining facilities, health and safety compliance and helping to train the team to the standards required within their roles. This will support the charities vision and help to ensure the financially and economically sustainable ongoing running of the building for all to enjoy.


As the manager in charge of daily maintenance for the venue, you will be working with the team to ensure practical elements of the venue's running from the opening checklist to the closing lock-up are efficient, maintained and recorded. You will champion safety practices and develop the staff and volunteer training programme in these areas and line manager the Operational Support staff and contractors. Through these key functions you will enable audiences and stakeholders to connect with this community driven arts venue in a safe, healthy and welcoming environment.


Your ability to talk with contractors, creatives and audiences alike will add to the venue's reputation and be crucial to it's success. Team working, excellent communication skills and stakeholder management will be integral to your role, being the back-bone of the overall team. You will report into the Board of Trustees and present a budget for regular review.


The goal is to have the space actively used throughout the week and this role is essential in making that happen, keeping the venue smoothly moving, enabling delivery of exciting projects and maintain the day-to-day running of the building.

Main Duties and Key Accountabilities



Represent the values, vision and ethos of the organisation within daily attitude, actions, creativity and approach to work and everyone engaged with the organisation Manage contractors for the site including cleaners, fire safety and compliance teams, building checks, waste management, energy & utility companies, car park maintenance, security companies Lead the development of sustainable initiatives and practices within the building Assist with safely planning and completing set-up and take down, of events including theatre and musical get-ins and get-outs Devise, facilitate and co-ordinate risk assessments, risk management policies, health & safety policies and staff training in areas appropriate to their level Be a central point for the team to communicate repairs, equipment movement, space set-up including get-ins and get-outs, to and help to facilitate elements and coordinate any major elements of repair for contractors to complete Liaise with team members to ensure compliance checks by contractors are completed and to meet them on site and help them to complete their tasks Be responsible for writing, checking, adding to and actioning risk assessments and health and safety processes as required Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the building and ensuring stocks are monitored for supplies including working alongside the Bar Manager where necessary Coordinate tracking regular risk assessments, fire evacuation tests, maintenance and compliance appointments with contractors, working with the team to ensure maintenance and compliance are programmed into spaces appropriately around events Deliver daily business running requirements such as opening and closing the building, occasionally assisting with box office and front of house duties Assist with coordinating and recording Volunteer and Staff training and development opportunities internally and external development opportunities for young people and educational bodies Champion access and diversity by actively seeking and suggesting available accessible technology, facilities and services suitable for the venue Uphold and promote the values of the organisation, encouraging others to do so, celebrating successes and finding opportunities and learnings from build experiences

Requirements



Knowledge



Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation and key workings within a similar size, public venue



Has excellent knowledge of general maintenance and repair methods



Has excellent knowledge of manual handling and safety in the workplace when moving equipment and setting-up for events



Has basic knowledge of facilities required within an arts venue and where to find appropriate contractors to assist with maintain them



Has knowledge of operational management software, Teams and MS Office



Has knowledge of and passion for the local, regional and national arts scene



Has local knowledge and understanding of the community, the challenges and benefits of the area

Experience



Show evidence of experience in a similar role



Show extensive proficiency in juggling multiple priorities whilst remaining hirer and audience focused



Has experience in contractor management and dealing with multiple stakeholders



Experience in operational management budgeting and reporting



It would be beneficial to have experience in actively championing access, diversity and inclusion



Qualifications & Training



Desired: training in health and safety, fire safety, first aid, manual handling training, work at height training, ladder training


Possess: experience in similar roles
