Oakleaf Forestry Ltd is a well-established engineering and forestry equipment company with strong growth, in-house fabrication, and trusted OEM partnerships. We design, supply, and manufacture high-quality forestry machinery and steelwork, with a reputation for doing things properly and delivering on our word.

We're now at the next stage of growth -- and we need someone who can take charge of day-to-day operations and let our MD focus on strategy, growth, and innovation.

The Role

We're looking for a

hands-on Operations Manager

to bring structure, accountability, and flow to a busy, high-mix engineering environment. You'll be responsible for keeping the show running smoothly -- ensuring materials, people, and machines are working in sync, and customers get what they were promised, when it was promised.

This is not a clipboard job. You'll be on the ground, problem-solving, coordinating production, and tightening up systems -- from drawings and BOMs to despatch.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and oversee all fabrication, assembly, and despatch activities. Translate drawings and BOMs into clear, achievable production schedules. Manage workload across shop floor staff -- ensuring jobs are correctly sequenced and resourced. Track materials, lead times, and supplier performance. Improve process flow between sales, design, and manufacturing. Identify bottlenecks and implement simple, smart improvements. Maintain a positive, no-nonsense culture of accountability, quality, and pride in workmanship. Report progress and issues directly to the MD, with proposed solutions -- not just problems.

About You

Proven experience in an

operations, production, or workshop management

role (ideally in fabrication, mechanical engineering, or construction manufacturing). Solid understanding of

workshop scheduling, materials management, and job costing

. Strong communicator -- able to connect office and shop floor. Calm under pressure, clear-headed, and organised. Tech-comfortable (Excel, scheduling tools, basic CAD or BOM understanding). Someone who takes pride in making things efficient and dependable.
