Job Summary
The Operations Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the trade plate delivery team, ensuring that all vehicle movements are planned, coordinated, and completed efficiently and in line with company standards. This role involves managing drivers, liaising with clients, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Supervise day-to-day trade plate delivery operations, ensuring timely and accurate vehicle movements.
Allocate and dispatch jobs to drivers based on workload, location, and capacity.
Monitor driver activity and delivery progress, addressing any delays or issues promptly.
Oversee collection and delivery documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Support the Operations Manager in planning routes, optimizing resources, and maintaining cost efficiency.
People Management
Lead, motivate, and support trade plate drivers and administrative staff.
Conduct driver briefings, performance reviews, and compliance checks.
Assist with driver recruitment, training, and onboarding.
Customer Service
Act as the main point of contact for clients, resolving queries and providing updates.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and professionalism in all client interactions.
Handle any service issues or complaints efficiently and effectively.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all operations comply with legal, health, and safety regulations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of transport legislation, trade plate usage, and vehicle handling procedures.
Monitor vehicle handovers, driver conduct, and accident reporting.
Administration & Reporting
Prepare daily and weekly operational reports (deliveries completed, delays, KPI performance).
Manage driver timesheets, mileage claims, and expense reports.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to process efficiency projects.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
Proven experience in logistics, transport coordination, or fleet operations (preferably within trade plate or vehicle logistics).
Strong organisational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and logistics/dispatch software.
Knowledge of UK road transport laws and vehicle movement compliance.
Desirable:
Experience supervising a team of trade plate or self-employed drivers.
Customer service or client management experience.
Full UK driving licence (preferably with trade plate experience).
Working Hours & Conditions
Standard hours: [e.g., Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm]
Some flexibility may be required for operational coverage or peak periods.
Office-based with occasional site or customer visits.
