The role of the Operations Technical Officer is a blend of desk and field-based work. You will organise and complete reservoir inspections, recording and presenting data to meet the requirements of the independent inspectors and the Reservoir Law. You will lead on the organisation and presentation of the Operations data for day-to-day capture, monthly reporting, and organising and co-ordinating to support projects such as water resource monitoring and planning. You will help deliver performance across day-to-day business operations by working within business systems such as GIS, SCADA and EAM. The role will support both Production Operations and Water Network in reporting on business performance and supporting strategic projects such as water resource planning. Over time, you will develop expertise within the operational systems, gain skills in efficiently organising and presenting data and help to modernise the company's use of operational data.
Key Responsibilities
Organise and complete weekly reservoir inspections and manage all recordable data.
Organise the bi-annual Supervising Engineer visits and 5-yearly Inspecting Engineer visits, supplying all required data, reviewing the reporting and converting into maintenance actions and projects for others to complete.
Keep the Reservoir Prescribed Form of Record (PFR) Documents, Emergency On-Site Plans up to date and review at least annually in accordance with the Supervising Engineer inspections, statements and other changes.
Support applications and data recording related to Water Operations, including:
+ SCADA
+ GIS (e.g., Esri ArcGIS)
+ Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)
+ JotForms Increase knowledge and assist with GIS related tasks, gathering data out in the field and update the GIS system. Update the system with data from historic records and other utilities.
Assist with purchase orders, goods receipts, work orders and requests using the EAM system.
Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new technology solutions to enhance Operational systems and applications.
Manage the Operational water supply data including rainfall, presenting for intranet and website use and liaising with external organisations as required.
Extract and organise data from operational monitoring systems and present in a meaningful and informative way.
Support the delivery of strategic projects across the business by carrying out research, providing data and support wherever needed.
Support the wider Water Operations Team in administrative tasks, system management and development.
Help to develop and manage electronic form processes to simplify, automate, and improve workflows
Maintaining accurate records of work within organised and structured systems.
Carry out other duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Trained and competent to enter confined spaces, following all necessary procedures.
Demonstrate attainment levels equivalent to Functional Skills Level 2 in both English and Mathematics (equivalent of GCSE Grade 4 or 5).
Demonstrate attainment levels equivalent to NVQ Level 3, A Levels, or BTEC Level 3 or higher.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate a professional and focused manner at all times.
IT literate, experienced and proficient in MS365 products, particularly Excel.
Knowledge and experience of EAM, GIS and SCADA systems
An enthusiastic, proactive, and self-motivated approach to work.
A keen interest in science, protecting the environment and supporting our island community.
An organised, methodical working style, able to manage priorities and work with accuracy.
Good observation skills and a keen eye for detail.
Ability to work safely and with minimal supervision including on site working.
Have a full, clean driving license covering, at a minimum, Class B1 and B.
An appreciation of health and safety practices in project delivery and utility environments.
The following attributes would be advantageous:Understanding and interpretation of Engineering drawings.
Familiarity with reservoir structures and principles of reservoir safety.
An appreciation of the environment and hydrology affecting water supplies and water supply infrastructure.
