Job Description

As an Ophthalmic technician, you will provide an efficient specialised support service to all patients allocated for diagnostic testing and face to face assessment.



The post holder will work alongside members of the medical, medical imaging, administrative, nursing team and other allied health professionals. They will support the nursing staff and medical team in providing high quality individualised care to a defined group of service users, relatives, and carers, ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles.



The post holder will supervise and teach/train all members of the multidisciplinary team in ophthalmic imaging.



The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of the maintenance of ophthalmic imaging equipment. Work with IT to network new equipment and troubleshooting issues with existing equipment.



To independently perform visual acuities, intraocular pressure testing, optical coherence tomography scans, fundus photography, and other different imaging techniques required for



To be competent to identify the normal and abnormal eye imaging anatomy



Inform medical team of imaging abnormalities which need urgent review .



Assist in the education and training of all staff.



Supervise junior staff.



Possess excellent communication skills to effectively give instructions to patients for the acquisition of ophthalmic images and communicating relevant information to the multidisciplinary team.

Clearly verbalise instructions for patients to follow to obtain the most comprehensive diagnostic test results



Communicate any worrying diagnostic eye test changes to the appropriate health professional following the appropriate protocols.



Escalate to the appropriate health care profession if the diagnostic patient requires a different pathway eg: face to face instead of virtual clinic.



Familiar with the local diagnostic protocols and standard operating procedures.



Maintain a good working relationship with the medical, nursing, allied health profession and clerical team.



Seek advice from the multidisciplinary team as necessary



Liaise with equipment companies and EBME to repair broken equipment
