Job Description

Opportunities in Government - Transport & Infrastructure

Overview:
We set out to build the world\'s most trusted consulting firm - creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working. We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.

You\'ll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life. Our clients love how we get to know what makes their businesses tick - slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.

We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world - from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin. Find us wherever there\'s a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.

Baringa believe that diversity is paramount to driving creativity, innovation, and value for our clients and for our people, and creating an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging is central to our culture.

Our Central Government Practice...

Following the continued growth of Baringa, we are excited to be building our Central Government practice and we are looking for amazing consultants who will thrive with us as we grow.

The UK government faces major challenges over the coming years, with competing priorities of COVID recovery, achieving Net Zero carbon emissions, the levelling up agenda, post-EU Exit consolidation, and the pressure to deliver improved services at lower cost. If you are excited about working alongside our clients to solve these challenges, then we could be what you are looking for.

We are supporting the government\'s most important programmes across Whitehall and the wider public sector, using our skills in Project Delivery, Operational Delivery, DDaT, Government Commercial, and Government Finance.

Brief summary of what the BU does, types of clients/projects, types of skills we have in our team

Transport and Infrastructure

Transport and Infrastructure is a critical enabler for levelling up and economic growth. You can\'t get to work, get to a leisure activity, make, ship, or deliver anything without it.

The sector is however facing massive upheaval and change. Regulatory reform, (including the implementation of Great British Rail) whilst delivering unprecedented levels of new infrastructure (such as HS2), were already challenges for the sector. Covid-19 has made this even more difficult, with falling passenger numbers making most public transport services non-commercially viable and requiring significant amounts of state support.

Delivering more and better public transport is also critical to enabling the UK to achieve its climate change targets. After years of increasing demand, public transport usage is only at 65% of its pre-pandemic level whilst car usage is over 100%. Delivering safe and affordable transport options that deliver great customer service will be key to encouraging people back onto public transport to drive economic growth in a sustainable way.

We\'re bringing a fresh approach and insight to the sector, linking together our market leading position in energy transition and deep experience of delivering change and improved public services elsewhere in government to help our transport clients deliver industry reform and transition to net zero.

We\'re growing rapidly and are looking for people to join our existing teams to shape and deliver the strong pipeline of opportunities we have.

What will you be doing?

Our consultants work across all parts of the transport sector and regulators to support the largest and most complex transformation programmes in the UK. These programmes are crucial in enabling government to improve outcomes for citizens, businesses and for the UK. We bring energy, expertise, and passion to deliver innovative, pragmatic solutions, which use our cross-industry knowledge and deep functional expertise.

  • Assessing and modelling the market impact of new policies and regulation especially those relating to net zero
  • Defining and securing multi-million-pound business cases and funding for new transport services or delivering new ways of working
  • Co-designing blueprints and operating models that deliver changes such as rail reform
  • Leading and delivering transformation programmes which deliver better passenger experience
  • Optimising front- and back-office processes
  • Building an AI, machine learning and analytics function to help solve complex data challenges
  • Bringing and embedding industry best practice from experience in other sectors
  • Creating commercial strategies and executing complex procurements
So, what are we looking for?

We recruit individuals at all levels based on merit. Don\'t worry about \'fitting into a quota\'; if you can demonstrate some of the skills we are after we would love to hear from you. Some of the key sills we are looking for:
  • Delivering operating model change
  • Improving customer service
  • Reducing operating cost in highly operational asset intensive businesses
  • Delivering capital programmes more efficiently and effectively
  • Driving cultural change in new organisations
  • Improving supply chain resilience
Existing experience from within the transport and infrastructure sector is desirable but not essential. If you\'ve got experience of working in other sectors (for example ENR) that involve asset intensive operations in a safety critical environment, then we\'d love to hear from you.

We\'re rapidly building a brand-new business to support our transport clients, so this is a fantastic opportunity to join at a time when you will be able to help shape and define the strategy as well as deliver it

So, what\'s in it for you?

Well, it\'s up to you. Baringa is what you make it.
  • Promotion is solely based on your own performance, and we give you every opportunity to progress by having four promotional reviews a year
  • We\'re proud to put people first with wellbeing at the forefront of our culture, one example of this is that every employee receives \xc2\xa3300 a year to put towards their wellbeing! In 2022 this was recognised in our #1 ranking in the UK\'s Great Place To Work \'Best Workplaces for Wellbeing\'.
  • All employees participate in the Baringa Group Profit Share Scheme, which seeks to ensure that everyone has a stake in the success of the company.
  • We recognise everyone needs a well-deserved break - As such we have introduced the \'Re-charge\' benefit meaning Baringa will offer all employees an additional 2 weeks of paid leave after 5 years continuous service.
  • Lastly, we recognise the importance of work-life balance and we know that the \'ideal\' balance will vary from person to person and will change at different stages of our working lives. If you require flexible working, please talk to one of our Recruiters about the flexibility you may need.
