Overview


The Optical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of an optical practice. This position involves assisting optometrists and opticians in providing exceptional patient care, ensuring a smooth workflow, and maintaining a well-organised environment. The ideal candidate will possess a keen interest in the optical field and have a foundational understanding of anatomy and laboratory procedures.

Duties



Greet patients warmly and assist them with their inquiries regarding eye care services. Prepare patients for eye examinations by taking preliminary measurements and recording medical histories. Assist optometrists during examinations by providing necessary instruments and materials. Maintain an organised inventory of optical products, ensuring that all items are well-stocked and displayed appropriately. Conduct basic laboratory tasks, such as lens edging and frame adjustments, under supervision. Educate patients on proper contact lens care and usage, as well as the benefits of various eyewear options. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the practice. Handle administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, processing patient records, and managing billing inquiries.

Qualifications



Knowledge of anatomy related to the eye is highly desirable. Experience in a laboratory setting is advantageous but not mandatory. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and team members. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care. Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. A proactive attitude towards learning new skills within the optical field.
This position requires enthusiasm for helping others and a willingness to develop professionally within the optical industry.

Pay: 25,812.80 per year
